Energie Cottbus in the training camp: Wollitz is looking for new stars in Austria!

FC Energie Cottbus has a lot to do for the upcoming season and relies on the proven training camp concept. For the first time since 2015, the team is moving abroad under head coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz. From July 17th to 23rd, 2025, the team in Hagenberg in the Mühlkreis near Linz, Austria, will make intensive preparations for the coming season in the 3rd division. According to rbb24, the reason for this step was that there is too much suitable test game opponents.

The training camp not only offers the opportunity to increase the fitness of the players, but also to get to know new faces in the squad more intensively. The club has currently committed at least eight new players, and four more should follow in the near future. At the moment, almost all kickers are there, only Lukas Michelbrink, who is in rehabilitation in Berlin, has to stay at home. A test player, Dennis Duah, will take the opportunity to present himself to the coaching team.

test games and birthday party

In the six days that the team will spend in Austria, two test games are planned. On Friday, July 18, FC Energie will meet the Austrian first division club SV Oberbank Ried in the Innviertel Arena at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday at 6:00 p.m. there will be another game against FC Hogo Hertha Wels, a second division club, in the Huber Arena. And as fate wants it, coach Wollitz celebrates his 60th birthday on Saturday, which also loosens up the activities of the week.

Sunday is used for regeneration and theoretical units, while Monday and Tuesday are completely characterized by intensive training sessions. On Wednesday, the team will go back to Cottbus, which is about 500 kilometers away. According to fcenergie.de

Difficulties in playing the player

Despite the new additions, coach Wollitz is still faced with challenges, especially in the team reinforcement. He has difficulty finding the desired players and is actively looking for other talents for the starting eleven. So that not enough, discussions with potential co-trainers are also underway, since the previous assistant coach Jonas Hildebrandt has switched to the youth area.

The start of the season is already just around the corner, and the first home game is against Saarbrücken in early August. The dress rehearsal on July 26, a friendly against the third division competitor Erzgebirge Aue, will be a highlight for the season preparation. All of these measures are intended to ensure that FC Energie Cottbus starts the new season well.
