Energie Cottbus presents new stars: Guwara and Butler are taking off!
On Tuesday morning, Energie Cottbus took the official team photo for the 2025/2026 season. The two new faces Justin Butler and Leon Guwara are there to bring a breath of fresh air into the squad. Both players are excited to be part of the team and head coach Pele Wollitz is confident in their potential. According to Niederlausitz Aktuell, Guwara, who was officially introduced on Tuesday, has completed a three-week trial training session and brings a lot of experience with him, including from his time at 1. FC Köln and other well-known clubs.
Leon Guwara is 29 years old and will strengthen Energie Cottbus' defense as a left-back. He can look back on a variety of appearances in the Bundesliga, 2nd and 3rd leagues and even has international experience from the Dutch Eredivisie. At kicker.de it is pointed out that Guwara has already played 18 Bundesliga, 63 second division and 44 third division games in his career. His possible appearances for the Gambian national team in five games also highlight his valuable experience.
Squad planning continues
But Cottbus cannot be fobbed off with this. Despite the two new additions, squad planning remains in full swing. Wollitz announces that reinforcements are still being sought, especially in central defense and on the offensive flanks. “We have the necessary instinct to get players who are on the wrong path back on track,” emphasizes Wollitz emphatically. The head coach is confident that the team can start the coming season well prepared.
Justin Butler has already shown remarkable performances in preparation. In seven test matches, the striker scored six goals and prepared a few more goals. Butler is also pleased to have been signed by Cottbus after a successful trial training session and will wear the number 31 shirt.
Immerse yourself in training
An announced test match against Hertha Zehlendorf was canceled due to the weather, but the team used the time for intensive running sessions. “The training camp starts on Thursday and I hope that we can get all players 90 minutes of playing time and field two complete teams,” explains Wollitz. He believes mentality and will are essential in German football in order to be successful in the long term.
The start of the competitive game won't be long in coming, the first duel against Saarbrücken is coming up at the beginning of August. The anticipation in the team and around the club is already noticeable. The new players bring a breath of fresh air and the team is well on its way to starting the new season with full energy.
