New backcourt star Tobias Grondahl: Füchse Berlin are relying on talent!
Something is happening at Füchse Berlin! With Tobias Grondahl, the Berliners have landed a new backcourt player who should bring a breath of fresh air into the team. The 24-year-old, who previously worked for GOG Håndbold, will wear number 15 from next season, a number that has a tradition in his family. His decision to go to Berlin was not least due to the positive role played by Mathias Gidsel, the highly sought-after world handball player, who showed Grondahl around the city and convinced him of the club's advantages. As rbb24 reports, the change has been prepared for around two years.
His future teammates have already welcomed the newcomer warmly into the team. In an interview, Grondahl said that he greatly appreciated the club's support in his search for an apartment in Berlin. “Berlin simply has a lot of options, cafés and restaurants,” says the Norwegian, who is looking forward to his adventure outside of Scandinavia. Before his time at GOG, Grondahl already gained experience with Elverum Håndball, where he won the Norwegian championship three times and was on the field with the best players in Europe in the Champions League.
New challenges
The Foxes will ultimately have to prepare for new challenges in the coming season, especially after Paul Drux's injury-related retirement in October. Those responsible under managing director Bob Hanning see Grondahl as a key person who can fill this gap. Coach Jaron Siewert particularly praises Grondahl's game intelligence and ability to guarantee the flow of the team. Sports director Stefan Kretzschmar also emphasizes Grondahl's fighting spirit, which will certainly benefit the Foxes in the coming season.
Grondahl himself has high expectations of himself and does not see the pressure as a burden, but rather as an incentive to integrate into the team. He has clear goals: “I want to win everything and score a lot of goals,” reveals the backcourt player. He also plans to learn German and hopes to make initial progress by the beginning of February.
The importance of mental strength
But mental strength will not only play a crucial role on the field. As sports psychologist Henning Thrien and former coach André Haber emphasize, sports psychology is also important in handball. There was too little exchange about the interplay between success and failure. Especially in the intense atmosphere of a Bundesliga team, it is important to strengthen the players' psyche. Therefore, working together in a team is not just a question of physical training. The right mental attitude can ultimately determine the success or failure of an entire game.
This season, the Füchse Berlin will not only rely on Tobias Grondahl's sporting performance, but also on psychological support in order to get the team to perform at its best. So it will be exciting to see how the new team will develop around its young backcourt player. The Foxes' handball style, which Grondahl describes as "Formula 1 handball", could help him and his team get off to a good start.
