Pelivan: Cottbus’ secret star in the DFB Cup! Way to stay in the league!
The success at Energie Cottbus has clearly motivated Dominik Pelivan. He made a permanent move to the traditional club in the summer of 2023 and sees the last two years as the best time of his career. In a recent interview with rbb24 He reveals that he really enjoys his new tasks at the Six and appreciates the family atmosphere of the club. Cottbus has rejuvenated itself through an ambitious change, which Pelivan sees as positive, even if the 14 departures and 10 new signings are challenging.
The club has already collected four points from the first three games this season. Despite the disappointing defeat against TSG Hoffenheim II, which ended 1:4, Pelivan remains confident: “It is up to us to take responsibility and exploit our performance potential.” The fact that Cottbus' home strength needs to be consolidated is his clear appeal before the next home game against FC Ingolstadt.
DFB Cup: An unforgettable victory
Pelivan also excelled in the DFB Cup. He singles out the win against Hannover 96 as one of the greatest games of his career. The DFB Cup, which has been held since 1935 and is considered the second most important title in German club football, attracts the best teams in the country in each round. In the current season, 64 teams are taking part, including Cottbus, who were able to qualify for this prestigious competition thanks to their performances in the regional league. Particularly exciting is the chance for lower-class teams to play against higher-class opponents, making the cup a stage for many to prove themselves and deliver surprises, as history proves DFB Cup shows.
Personal development in focus
Pelivan has had an eventful career. After starting out at SpVgg Tiergarten and moving to Hertha BSC, he went through various youth teams and crowned his time there by winning the Youth DFB Cup in the 2014-15 season. After stints in the regional league and further difficulties, such as injuries, he has now arrived at Cottbus. There he is watched not only for his games on the pitch, but also for his most recent “misfires”, such as the own goal in the DFB Cup game against SC Paderborn, which was nominated for the “Poop Goal of the Month” award.
His path took him back to Cottbus, where he has been a permanent member of the team since June 2023. His role as a playmaker in the central position is crucial to the team's success. He currently has clearly formulated goals: “Staying in the third division is a priority.” He remains realistic, but also understands the challenge that lies ahead of him and his team. The commitment and cohesion within the club are fundamental building blocks that drive him and his teammates to continue to work on themselves and grow.
