Cycling sensation: young people chase top speeds!
In global cycling, the local events are also impressive: on July 12, 2025, young talents in the U11 to U17 age groups showed top sporting performances. Participants in the cycling races came from various clubs, including the RSC Cottbus, the Frankfurter RC 90 e.V. and the RK Endspurt 09 Cottbus e.V., all of which achieved strong results. Traditional clubs such as 1. RSC Strausberg and RSV Unit Lübben e.V. were also able to enjoy podium places, while BSC Süd 05 e.V. caused a stir with two fourth places by Sarah Hoffmann and Nicholas Zaher [meetingpoint-brandenburg.de].
Particularly noteworthy was the individual time trial (EZF), in which the young Miles Paulini took third place in the U11 over 6 km. Nick-Luca Tröger followed closely behind in fourth place. In the “Everyman” category, Stephan Degenhardt from Berlin was able to complete the 12 km long route to the Hoher Rott in a time of 15:18.813 minutes, which corresponds to an impressive average speed of 46.23 km/h. This event not only showcased the skills of the participants, but was also characterized by a demanding route with an incline of 12 percent.
New blood brings a breath of fresh air
The BSC Süd 05 celebrated some successes in the age groups, with Jan Greve taking second place in age group 7 with a time of 20:44.723 minutes. These remarkable achievements show that the young drivers in our region are not afraid of the competition. The next race for the BSC Süd 05 will take place on September 14th in Barnewitz. Those interested can already register online for the 19th pairs time trial.
But it's not just the local racing scene that is exciting, professional cycling is also making history. The 2024 WorldTour season will go down as the fastest year ever. Tadej Pogacar was a dominant figure this season, and the average speed rose to a record-breaking 42.229 km/h, a significant increase from the previous record of 41.807 km/h in 2023, as radsportaktuell.de reported.
Technology and training in focus
Advances in bicycle technology and the more aggressive riding style of the new generation of cyclists are largely responsible for this rush of speed. In 2024, the fastest race of the Renewi Tour was the highlight at 49.325 km/h, while the 13th stage of the Tour de France caused a sensation with an average speed of 48.821 km/h. This impressively shows how cycling is becoming faster and faster. The historical development makes it clear that average speeds have increased continuously since 2002, which reflects not only top sporting performance but also significant technological progress, as the analyzes by radsport-wulff.de underline.
The outlook for the 2025 season promises even more records. With ambitious athletes and constant development in the areas of training, nutrition and technology, cycling remains an exciting field of activity for all cycling enthusiasts. So let’s stay excited to see what the coming races will bring us!
