Water feature in Eliaspark Cottbus contaminated due to bacteria!

In the popular Eliaspark in Cottbus, families have to cancel their trip to the water play area for the time being. The area is unusable due to bacterial contamination. The cause of the contamination could be an interrupted water circulation affecting the playgrounds around this part of the park. The operators who CMT Cottbus GmbH and the Cottbus Community Foundation have jointly decided to close the water features in order to ensure the necessary hygiene and not to endanger the health of visitors.

Visitors can find out more on the posters on site, while relevant information can also be found on the park's website and social media profiles. Fortunately, the rest of the playground remains open so that children can still enjoy their free time. However, it is important to avoid playing in puddles that form in the watercourse after rainfall. It is currently not foreseeable that the water feature will be put back into operation any time soon.

Hygiene regulations in focus

The challenges surrounding water quality are addressed by the DIN 18034 standard, which deals with the planning, construction and operation of playgrounds. This standard regulates important aspects such as hygiene regulations, bacteriology and water quality in playgrounds. To ensure safe use of water playgrounds, planners must keep technical requirements and user safety in mind, such as yew reported.

DIN 18034 stipulates that water in playgrounds should have a quality that at least corresponds to that of bathing water. This also applies to standing water, such as that found in water playgrounds. Regular maintenance and inspections are of great importance to ensure that the water quality meets specifications at all times. A focus on barrier-free areas promotes inclusion and also enables children with mobility restrictions to participate in the game.

Inventory protection and security requirements

The standard also states that existing playgrounds that were built before the introduction of DIN 18034 do not require any immediate adjustments as long as they are not fundamentally changed. This means that the protection of the playground's existence is maintained if the rules in force at the time were adhered to. The safety requirements include the possibility of making the playgrounds accessible to the general public through appropriate signage and maintenance, such as the expertise of Forum Publisher suggests.

Although the water play area is currently not available, all other playground features can still be used. It remains to be seen when the water features can be put back into operation after sufficient checks and with assured water quality. Parents and children therefore have the opportunity to explore the remaining play areas in Eliaspark and enjoy the variety of play options, while the topic of hygiene remains very important to the public.
