A117 blocking from Monday: Massive construction work endanger traffic!
From Monday, July 14, 2025, Autobahn 117 in southeast of Berlin will be completely closed for around two weeks. According to a message from Autobahn GmbH, this measure will continue until July 25th to carry out important construction work on a bridge as part of the new building of the Hubertus junction. On this occasion, the medium strip is also renovated and the traffic routing is redesigned. The information in this regard has published rbb24.
The full closure affects the motorway piece between the Treptow triangle and the Waltersdorf junction. However, the A113 exit at the Waltersdorf triangle remains open during the work. The A117, which has a length of five kilometers and connects the Treptow motorway triangle with the Waltersdorf motorway triangle, can be used again after July 25th towards the Treptow. However, no expected end date of the blocking is yet known for the recording to Waltersdorf. This information comes from TAG24.
The condition of the bridges in Berlin
The current construction work is part of a more comprehensive renovation project that Berlin would like to carry out by 2033. It includes the renovation or new construction of a total of 120 bridges. Estimated costs for these measures amount to one billion euros. The condition of many bridges in Berlin is worrying: only 21 % of the 867 bridges are considered in good condition, and 50 freeway bridges are according to MOZ endangered.
Special attention is paid to bridges that are built with hennigsdorfer clamping steel - a material that is susceptible to corrosion. Clear renovation plans already exist for 33 bridges, while 14 of them are being renovated or rebuilt. If we look at the Wuhlheide Bridge in Treptow-Köpenick, it becomes clear that quick measures are quite possible: it was quickly torn down and restored after its blocking.
The bridge renovations are not only important for the safety of drivers, but also for the entire transport network of Berlin. The planned procedure, including a master plan for bridges, is intended to help accelerate the planning and implementation of new buildings by 2-3 years. For many road users in Berlin, it is therefore said: holding out and pay attention to the diversions!
