Construction site chaos in Dahme-Spreewald: mayoral election and treasurer crisis!

Summertime is construction site time – especially in Dahme-Spreewald. There are currently several construction sites underway that affect both federal and state roads. In Baruth the situation is clear: there is a lot of digging and gravel going on here. At the same time, politicians are shedding light on the upcoming change processes in the community of Eichwalde, where there is also no progress in many areas.

A look at Zeuthener Straße (L401) in Eichwalde shows that cars have no longer been able to drive here since October 2022. However, the work should finally be completed on September 30, 2025. The Am Birkengrund road (L793) in Ludwigsfelde will also not be accessible until the end of the year. This measure serves to develop a new industrial park. For all construction projects, delays are possible at any time, not least due to weather-related influences, such as [maz-online.de].

Mayoral election in Eichwalde

The political scene in Eichwalde is also being reshuffled, as a new mayor will be elected in the fall. The current incumbent Jörg Jenoch (WIE) will be replaced after eight years. Four candidates have registered so far, including Florian Hemmerling as an individual applicant and Jürgen Heuchling from the AfD. Hemmerling must submit supporting signatures by July 30th, otherwise his dream of becoming mayor could collapse. The election date is set for October 5th, while a possible runoff election is scheduled for November 9th.

The dismissal of the treasurer in Bestensee also causes excitement. This decision followed his conviction for forgery of documents by the Cottbus district court. In a vote, 15 of 18 people present voted for the recall. The treasurer will initially remain an employee of the municipality, but Mayor Roland Holm is faced with the challenge of finding a successor.

Infrastructure in focus

Another topic that concerns the region are transport projects. At the Eichwalde S-Bahn station, the stairs to the platforms were opened after a long seven-year construction period. Mayor Jenoch expressed optimism about the completion, which was long overdue. The renewal had several challenges, including groundwater problems and material shortages. There is talk of a barrier-free underpass, but the elevators are not yet in operation. However, these are scheduled to be put into operation by the end of July, as rbb24.de reports.

But other infrastructure projects are also on the agenda. In Brandenburg, for example, construction tests are repeatedly referred to when building municipal roads and promoting new bridges and cycle paths. Such an examination is essential for large projects with a grant of 1,500,000 euros or more. All documents must be submitted conscientiously to ensure safety standards, as ls.brandenburg.de informs.

There is also news in Königs Wusterhausen: Postbank is canceling its postal service and will concentrate fully on banking services in the future. Some partner companies have stopped working with Deutsche Post, which is causing dissatisfaction among local residents, but is entirely in the spirit of modernization.

And last but not least, BER Airport is booming in the summer and expects 3.7 million passengers during the summer holidays. This means that around 100,000 more travelers are forecast compared to the previous year. In order to reduce long waiting times at security checkpoints, the airport is investing in new CT scanners, which will be put into operation in the North Pavilion from next Thursday.
