Mayoral election 2025: Who is fighting for the votes in Eichwalde and Schulzendorf?

Next Sunday, October 5, 2025, the mayoral elections will take place in the municipalities of Eichwalde and Schulzendorf. Eligible voters, including all residents aged 16 and over, can cast their votes at the relevant polling stations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. In Eichwalde, where around 6,300 people live, the incumbent Jörg Jenoch from the Eichwalde WIE voter initiative is standing for re-election. The competition is strong, as five other candidates are entering the race: Stephan Gruhlke (CDU), Stefanie Goller (SPD), Jürgen Heuchling (AfD), Thomas Hufnagel (The Party) and Florian Hemmerling (individual candidate) are also on the ballot.

A central issue that concerns voters in Eichwalde is the night flight rules for BER Airport. Located near the airport, these regulations are being intensively discussed. RBB reports that the updated debate about a ban on night flights broke out after a statement by BER boss Aletta von Massenbach. This advocated for more flexibility in night flight regulations, but this met with resistance.

Election in Schulzendorf

Things are similarly exciting in the neighboring municipality of Schulzendorf, where the independent incumbent Markus Mücke is no longer running after two successful terms in office. Around 9,800 people have the right to vote here. Six candidates are on the list here: Dominic Lübke (SPD), Markus Witteck (CDU), Gunnar Christiansen (Greens), Lukas Jan Tiede (The Party), Ramona Brühl and Peter Schulze, both individual proposals. If none of the candidates achieve an absolute majority, a runoff election will take place on November 9th.

How maz online reports, there is also keen interest in the night flight regulations in Schulzendorf, which are of great importance for the community as they are closer to the airport. To date, five proceedings are pending at the Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Aviation Authority due to possible violations of these rules. However, a change in the regulations is unlikely and remains a hot topic in the debate.

The local sport

In the meantime, there is also news from the sports world: Dirk Westphal, managing director of Netzhoppers Königs Wusterhausen, expressed his concerns in an interview about the continued difficult conditions for the club, which is the last remaining first division club in Brandenburg in the five major ball sports. He hopes for a good conversation with the new mayor to ensure the club's continued existence.

It therefore remains to be seen how the elections on Sunday will turn out. The citizens of Eichwalde and Schulzendorf have the opportunity to set the course for the coming years. It remains to be seen whether the new mayors will keep an eye on the current issues surrounding the airport and the promotion of sports.
