Strict construction work in Eichwalde: L401 remains closed until September!
People work hard in Eichwalde – and not insignificantly. The asphalting work on the L401, more precisely on Zeuthener Straße, has begun. How maz-online.de reported, the second construction phase started on May 15th and was originally supposed to be completed during the summer holidays. But now it is clear: the road will be closed until September and early opening is not possible. All traffic has been redirected via Eichwalde since October 2024.
The asphalting work is just the beginning, because after the initial repair work, work on the traffic islands and the completion of the pedestrian traffic lights are still on the agenda. Street residents still have a lot to prepare for, because until the L401 is finally reopened, temporary bypasses for bus traffic and construction site facilities will also have to be removed.
Extensive renovation in two construction phases
The renovation of the L401 is being initiated by the state of Brandenburg and is to be carried out over a distance of around 940 meters. This work officially begins onSeptember 16, 2024, How stategovernment.brandenburg.de reported. In the first section, the work will be carried out behind Friedenstrasse up to the junction with Schmöckwitzer Strasse. The second section extends beyond the junction with Lindenstrasse.
Starting on October 7, 2024, the first construction phase will be carried out under full closure; the work is scheduled to last until July 2025. The subsequent second construction phase is scheduled to be completed by September 2025. An important detail: After the renovation is completed, new avenue trees are planned to be planted in the green strip next to the street. These measures are intended not only to improve traffic flow, but also to increase the quality of life in Eichwalde.
Bus transport and diversions
The diversion of traffic, particularly bus routes, is a key issue during construction work. Lines U1, U2, U3 and U4 must be rerouted. The U1 line runs from Königs Wusterhausen via Niederlehme to Schmöckwitz, while the U2 takes the route via Waltersdorf to Schmöckwitz. All timetable changes will be communicated in a timely manner through notices and on the website of the Regionale Verkehrsgesellschaft Dahme-Spreewald mbH RVS.
Transport Minister Guido Beermann emphasizes that these comprehensive investments in the road and cycle path network are intended to strengthen mobility in Brandenburg, as was also explained at a press breakfast in 2023. The measures are necessary to meet the demands of modern transport needs and are part of a long-term strategy to improve transport infrastructure in the country.
Citizens are asked to understand the construction sites and the inconveniences associated with them. Although it is currently a test of patience, everyone involved can hope for a better road and a more comfortable driving experience once the construction work is completed.
