Tragic flight accident: paramotor pilot dies in Jamlitz!

On Wednesday night, a tragedy occurred near Jamlitz in the Dahme-Spreewald district: a 61-year-old man lost his life while flying cross-country with a paramotor trike. The accident victim was part of a group of pilots who flew from Eisenhüttenstadt to Bronkow. Since the man could not be reached after reaching his destination, the police were informed and they immediately initiated extensive search measures. These were supported by both police and Bundeswehr helicopters, reported Niederlausitz Current.

The man was finally found at around 12:45 a.m. in a forest near Jamlitz. Unfortunately, the emergency doctor could only determine that the pilot was dead. The exact circumstances of the crash continue to be investigated by police, as well the Brandenburg Police Department informed.

A call for security clearance

Aviation accidents, from small sports aircraft to commercial airlines, are rare and accident statistics tend to show a decline in serious incidents - in 2024 there were 268 deaths globally. Nevertheless, every crash causes great consternation. The last major tragic incident reported in the media was Germanwings Flight 4U9525 in 2015, in which all 150 passengers lost their lives. The likelihood of an accident is much lower in commercial aviation than in road transport, such as Statista represents.

The development of landing assistants and other technical innovations should help to further increase safety. However, carrying out flights with paramotors on your own responsibility requires special attention to safety and preparation. Such flights are particularly popular in the Jamlitz region because the landscape offers excellent visibility and conditions.

Current situation in the district

While the investigation into the aircraft accident continues, the local police are also providing further current reports from the Dahme-Spreewald district: There was recently an accident in Wildau in which two cars collided on Freiheitsstrasse, fortunately without any injuries. An incident also occurred in Langengrassau in which a driver had to be hospitalized after her car collided with a VW van. Such reports show that there are plenty of challenges not only in the air but also on the roads.

For those interested, a prevention day for caravan and mobile home owners will take place in Zeesen on July 12, 2025. Here those present can find out about security and burglary protection. In times when security is ever more present in our minds, such events represent an important opportunity to arm yourself.

The loss of the pilot is a painful reminder for all aviation enthusiasts to always fly carefully and well prepared. May this incident serve as a call for increased security precautions in the future.
