Tragic paragliding accident: 61-year-old found dead in Jamlitz!
In Wildau, on the north bank of the Dahme, a decision is pending on the future use of a fallow area. More than two years ago, the city of Wildau stopped Bauwert AG's plans for large-scale development, and the properties have been a hot topic in local politics ever since. The question being discussed is how to deal with contaminated sites in the soil, including dangerous pollutants such as arsenic, which could drive cleanup costs into the millions of euros. A special building committee will meet in September to discuss prospects for the development of the area, which is considered one of the last large areas in the city. It remains to be seen what solutions those responsible will find, but the concerns of residents and environmentalists are clearly audible.
Another topic that concerns the community of Wildau is the Miersdorf outdoor swimming pool. This season, new regulations have been introduced, which have been met with mixed feelings by visitors. Fewer lifeguards and no entry controls lead to increased personal responsibility among bathers, but also to concerns about littering on the area. The outdoor pool is now accessible 24 hours a day, which is generating excitement but also raising fears that it could lead to increased pollution. The community plans to take residents' concerns seriously by reinstalling ladders and continuing discussions after the season ends.
A tragic accident in paragliding
On Tuesday last week, a 61-year-old paraglider was found lifeless in Jamlitz after he was reported missing. He was part of a group of five pilots who took off on a flight from Eisenhüttenstadt-Pohlitz. The other participants arrived safely, while a large-scale search operation, which also included a Bundeswehr helicopter, was necessary to find the unfortunate man. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is being conducted by the criminal police and the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation. Paragliding is very popular, but as recent tragedies show, the sport can also pose fatal risks. According to gleit Schirm-optimal.de, safety is of central importance in paragliding and regular training is essential to minimize the risk.
Happy holidays and anniversaries everywhere!
The village festival marathon is coming up in the coming weeks, where several places such as Rangsdorf, Diedersdorf and Zeuthen are celebrating. Here you can celebrate the first documented mention from 1375. The celebrations pay respect to cultural heritage and provide ample opportunity for socializing and celebrating community. The anniversaries, which often span 650 years and in Töpchin's case 550 years, promise exciting events for all ages. A great example of the region's living tradition and sense of togetherness!
And while we're on the topic of celebrations and developments in the region, the Tesla gas station in Grünheide now operates the largest charging park in the world with over 500 charging stations. The special thing about it: They are not only available to Tesla vehicles, but to all vehicles and charging is free. However, the system only offers a charging power of 11 kilowatts over a long range, which is not always the best solution in everyday life.
Wildau and the surrounding area remain a place for many issues that continue to concern the community. It remains exciting to see how the meetings, celebrations and challenges will develop.
