Volunteering in Brandenburg: Submit proposals for the 2026 prize by January!

In our dynamic city of Cologne there are many people who work tirelessly for the common good. This tireless effort, often in the background and without much fuss, deserves recognition. It is precisely for this reason that the city of Brandenburg an der Havel is looking for proposals for the 2026 volunteer awards, which can be submitted by January 15, 2026. Women and men who are passionately committed to various areas of society should be honored. The city calls on books and citizens to submit suggestions to strengthen volunteerism as an important pillar of the community.

A central aspect of the volunteer award is the personal motivation of the nominees, which is often reflected in their work for clubs or social institutions. The award ceremony is planned for June 2026 during the city's summer reception. Those interested can easily submit their suggestions via an online questionnaire. We ask that you only make one suggestion per club or institution. If you have any questions, citizens can contact Desiree Twieg from the Mayor's Office, who will be happy to provide advice and support.

Commitment to accessibility

Another important area is accessibility. The National Archives of the Philippines have adopted the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 as the standard for their web development. These guidelines are intended to ensure that all users, regardless of their abilities, can access the content offered. Compliance with these standards is measured in three levels and is a step in the right direction for widespread accessibility.

The 124th National Archives Day was also celebrated on October 21, 2025, which focused on the topic of “archives and peace education”. This shows how important archives are for understanding and maintaining social cohesion. National Archives Day was initiated in 1995 and has since established itself as a significant event.

Design for everyone with Canva

Another interesting aspect today is the topic of design. The online design platform Canva In just a few years, it has developed into an indispensable tool for many users in 190 countries and inspires over 10 million users every day. The platform allows people to create professional designs without deep graphics knowledge.

Canva recently achieved coveted unicorn status with a $1 billion valuation, demonstrating the importance of accessibility and teamwork in the design process. 80% of Fortune 500 companies rely on Canva to design their brand presentations and communication materials. This makes it clear that good design is no longer just reserved for professionals!

The efforts of committed citizens in Cologne, the pursuit of accessibility and the development of user-friendly design tools make it clear that community effort and innovation go hand in hand. It is important to celebrate these successes and push forward!
