Tree planting campaign in Falkenberg: 915 new trees for the city forest!

On September 19th, a remarkable tree-planting campaign by the children's and youth fire brigade took place in Falkenberg/Elster. This initiative was actively supported by the Forstbaumschule Stackelitz GmbH & Co. KG from Coswig/Anhalt and aims to enrich the city forest with new, young trees.

A total of 915 trees were planted, which turned out to be a true community project. Not only the youth fire brigades from Falkenberg were active, but also the comrades from the neighboring towns of Beyern and Schmerkendorf pitched in. The areas on which the trees were planted were previously prepared by the Crescat company from Arzberg, which made organizing the campaign much easier.

A warm farewell after hard work

Despite the hard physical work, there was still plenty of fun. During the planting, the young fire department members learned teamwork and communication, an experience that goes beyond the practical aspect. Peter Mohr, the city forester, accompanied the event and ensured that everything ran smoothly.

The local Getzschmann bakery and the Bummel butcher shop from Falkenberg provided food for the participants. The busy afternoon ended with a convivial dinner celebrating the day's successes.

Climate protection through tree planting campaigns

This type of commitment cannot only be observed in Germany. In Austria, around 30,000 fire brigade youth members have also launched a tree planting campaign to raise awareness of climate protection and sustainability. Each fire brigade youth member is given a tree during the autumn holidays, which binds around 10 kg of CO2 annually. Overall, the project aims to bind 300 tons of CO2 annually feuerwehr-ktn.at is reported.

In addition, the official start of this campaign took place at the federal championship in Traiskirchen, where each federal state symbolically received a fruit tree and a spade. The focus here is not only on reforestation, but also on an extensive accompanying program for young people from Carinthia.

A growing tradition

The tree planting challenge in Germany is another example of the commitment of firefighters in the name of climate protection. This campaign is distributed via social media and not only offers an exciting competitive aspect, but also promotes camaraderie among fire department members. Teams often plant trees within seven days, with late action usually resulting in a “barbecue” for the nominating fire department, like this Fire department magazine explained.

These actions impressively demonstrate how important it is to protect our environment while strengthening social bonds within the fire service community. The younger ones not only learn how to deal with plants, but also the relevance of environmental protection in our everyday lives.

So the hope remains that these joint projects will continue to fall on fertile ground and that many more trees will be planted. Who knows, perhaps the Falkenberg/Elster city forest will soon become a green paradise that invites you to relax.
