Finsterwalde starts a survey for safe footpaths – get involved!
In Finsterwalde, the city administration has started an exciting pilot project that targets pedestrian-friendliness in the region. The so-called pedestrian traffic check is intended to show where there are problems in the city and what danger areas there are for pedestrians. LR Online reports that the first inspection has already taken place and initial impressions have been evaluated. For this purpose, selected representatives from various target groups met in a breezy three-hour tour that covered a distance of 2.5 kilometers.
The aim of this initiative is clear: footpaths, public areas and especially the south residential complex should be made more pedestrian-friendly. Participants in this first inspection included the Finsterwalde housing cooperative, representatives of Lebenshilfe and the senior citizens' advisory board. They all come together to bring their concerns into the project planning. Wochenkurier emphasizes that children and young people as well as experts from the public order office and urban development are also involved in the survey.
Invitation to participate
The city of Finsterwalde invites citizens to take an active part in improving footpaths. Until June 30, 2025, residents can enter their impressions and suggestions for improvement via a digital dialogue card or take part in an online survey. An analogue version of the dialogue card is available from the citizen service during opening hours. In doing so, the city not only wants to uncover problems, but also invite residents to improve. The response to the first inspection suggests that citizens are happy to get involved in making their city more pedestrian-friendly.
Foot traffic has an important role in our modern world that should not be underestimated. According to a study by the Federal Ministry of Transport, over 80% of people over 14 say they enjoy walking. ARUP report also shows that walking offers numerous advantages: it promotes health, reduces crime and increases the attractiveness of the city. Especially in rural areas, it is important that paths are well designed to motivate citizens to walk and reduce the environmental impact of cars.
Areas of action for a pedestrian-friendly city
In order to sustainably improve the pedestrian situation, a joint effort is required. This includes the design of footpaths, safety aspects and the creation of places to stay. The city administration will respond to citizens' comments in the coming weeks and incorporate them into the planning. In addition, the foot traffic check is an important tool for taking stock of the current situation. LR Online and Wochenkurier encourage everyone Residents to raise their voices and actively contribute to improving foot traffic.
It is an opportunity for Finsterwalde to establish itself as a pedestrian-friendly city that attracts not only residents but also visitors. Ultimately, positive changes to walking routes could not only increase the quality of life, but also promote social interaction. So, join in and help make your city even more livable!
