New life-saving center: Großthiemig lays the foundation stone for a rescue station!
Yesterday the foundation stone for a new rescue station was laid in Großthiemig. The Elbe-Elster district plans to significantly strengthen emergency medical care in Schradenland with this new building. The ceremony took place on June 24, 2025 and is another step in the continuous improvement of emergency services in the region. This makes the new station the eleventh new building that has been built since 2010 to meet the requirements of modern emergency care. As Niederlausitz-aktuell reports, preparation for the construction work began on March 17, 2025.
The new rescue station will be built near the previous location at Hauptstrasse 31, which no longer meets today's standards. The investment costs amount to around 1.6 million euros. At the end of its construction period, in September 2026, the guard will be manned around the clock. The team will include a paramedic or emergency paramedic, a paramedic and an emergency paramedic trainee working in shifts.
Planned equipment and construction measures
The new station will be equipped with everything needed for effective emergency response. Plans include, among other things, a garage parking space for an ambulance, spacious storage areas, modern lounges and relaxation rooms and a separate disinfection area. An office for administrative activities and a lock for the supply of materials and medicines are also part of the infrastructure, which is intended to provide the employees with good support.
The commissioned companies, which come from the region, include PS Bau Peter Sähring GmbH for civil engineering and shell construction and Fischer Flachdach GmbH for the roof work. Hauffe Industrietore GmbH takes care of the metal construction, while Kollesser Kunststoff- und Metallbau GmbH takes part in the window, door and carpentry work. The construction work also offers the local economy a good opportunity to contribute its specialist knowledge and further strengthen the region. As [EE Fernsehen](http://www.ee- Fernsehen.de/mediathek/5615/neue_Rettungswache.html) adds, the new guard will make a significant contribution to the safety of the population in Großthiemig and the neighboring towns in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district.
Current developments in emergency services
If you look at the development of the rescue stations in the district, it is clear that regular renovations and new buildings are urgently needed. According to Wochenkurier, there are currently several projects in the pipeline. For example, the rescue station in Werchau will also be replaced because the current conditions there do not meet occupational safety or hygiene standards. The new building in Werchau will also be staffed around the clock and is intended to optimize emergency response times.
In summary, the new building of the rescue station in Großthiemig offers the opportunity to sustainably improve basic medical care and quick help in emergencies. With state-of-the-art equipment and a motivated team, this location will certainly have a positive impact on the emergency services landscape in the region.
