Mud football in Staupitz: modder fun with 16 teams and after-show party!

It's finally that time again: On June 28, 2025, the 11th mud soccer tournament will take place in Staupitz! A real mud adventure is offered on the festival meadow, with participants diving into a deep mud hole to put their footballing skills to the test. Organized by the Rubbeldikaz youth club, the event is very popular and is expecting 16 teams this year, including the world champions from Lindenau. LR online reports that the games will be played in exciting World Cup format - two groups with the best two teams moving into the knockout rounds.

The rules of the game are simple, but bring a special touch to the action: women's goals count double and the games last 2x4 minutes. A bit of creativity is also required when it comes to shoes, as sneakers are allowed while cleated shoes are prohibited. If you want, you can even secure your shoes with duct tape. In addition, little visitors can expect a children's program with a bouncy castle.

A colorful supporting program

But the tournament is not just for the players! Spectators can also look forward to an entertaining supporting program. Performance highlights are the cheerleaders from Thalberg and the power women from Friedersdorf, who will further heat up the atmosphere. The tournament starts at 10 a.m. and is expected to end at 6 p.m. There will be prizes for the best three teams and the most original costumes. Niederlausitz Current also emphasized how important fun and perseverance are in this relaxed competition - the focus is not on football skills.

In the evening there will be the after-show party “Schlamm & Bass”, which will be in full swing at 8 p.m. with electronic music. Under the illuminated willow dome, guests can expect a great atmosphere with fog, strobe and other light effects that will set the perfect setting for a long night of partying.

A look beyond the borders

Anyone who enjoys mud football might also be interested in other events that are similarly crazy. An exemplary example is the annual European mud football championship in Bolungarvík, Iceland. This is organized by a community and takes up to four days to get the playing field into a playable condition. Deutschlandfunk explains that during this event there is also a lot of emphasis on fair games - no one wants the muddy mess to degenerate into a chaos of fouls. Every participant also knows that after the games, a thorough shower in the nearby river is not only necessary, but often a highlight of the day.

So we can look forward to an unforgettable tournament in Staupitz that will bring mud sports to the fore and provide lots of fun. So for all football enthusiasts: clear your calendars, the mud adventure awaits!
