Over 500 visitors celebrate at the summer festival in Finsterwalde!

On Friday, June 16, 2025, the Finsterwald market square will be transformed into a true festival mile for music lovers. At this year's summer festival at the “Gebrüder Graun” district music and art school, over 500 visitors came together to listen to a five-hour, varied stage program. This event was not only a treat for the ears, but also a great showcase for the region's musical talent. Niederlausitz Aktuell reports that the festival began with the band “Sleepy Creeps”, who presented soothing chillout sounds.

The program consisted of a variety of musical elements. The bands “Found Together” and “Confused” offered creative arrangements, while the band “RISIKO” with singer Nils Wilhelm, a winner of the national “Jugend musiziert” competition, contributed to the highlight of the event. Visitors were able to enjoy immense musical diversity, with performances by choirs such as the vocal ensemble “The Vocal PickUps” and “Choregano” under the direction of Karoline Böckelmann. The emotional conclusion was designed by “The Trinity Gospels” of the Evangelical Church of Finsterwalde under Kathrin Hübner.

Outstanding achievements in “Jugend musiziert”

The summer festival is not only a highlight of the year, but also a symbol of the excellent musical education in the region. This was recently impressively demonstrated at the regional competition “Jugend musiziert”. As the Wochenkurier reports, the young people from the district music and art school were able to win 34 first and five second prizes. Not only the award winners but also the entire school community can be happy about the great achievement, as they continue to impressively demonstrate their commitment to musical education.

Particularly noteworthy is Pepe Müller, who was honored with a special prize for his outstanding performance in the drums (solo) category. The successes in the competition not only show the high level of training, but also that 15 first-place musicians qualified for the Brandenburg state competition in March. The bands “Confused”, “Risk”, “Sleepy Creeps” and “Found Together” will also be heard at the Sound City Festival in Ludwigsfelde in July.

Promoting young talent and creative participation opportunities

The summer festival also provided a highly enriching experience for new talent. Numerous young musicians who took part in the 75th Open Stage were also able to present their skills. Theresa Winzer received a lot of applause for her impressive solo contribution and also received first prize in the national competition. Events like these not only promote talent, but also strengthen the sense of community among young musicians.

In order to broaden the artistic horizon, there was also an action stand from the art department. Here, visitors were able to try out what creativity has to offer together with Sara and Evelyn Waldmann. Chris Poller, the head of the district music and art school, drew a positive conclusion: “The achievements of our students and the committed team are truly remarkable and show that a good path is being taken here.”

Overall, the summer festival was not only a treat for the ears, but also a meeting point for local music lovers and a confirmation of the hard work that goes into the region's musical creation. Jugend musiziert also offers a framework for 170 regional competitions, which offer young talents a platform to make themselves visible and develop further. It is clear that the district music and art school is on the right track to keep the region's music scene alive and promoted.
