Peaceful CSD in Bernau: 600 participants defy right -handed demonstration

Bernau, Deutschland - On July 12, 2025, this year's motto of Christopher Street Day (CSD) was placed under the sign of "Queer stays here" in the city of Bernau. Around 600 people moved through the streets from the train station and thus set a clear sign of diversity and acceptance. Despite the announcement of right-wing extremist counter-demonstrations, the event remained peaceful and was seen as a complete success by Mayor André Stahl (left) and the CSD organizers, especially in view of the uncomfortable weather.

The police were on site with a strong presence to ensure the safety of the participants and prevent riots. If you look at the situation, the emergency services are pleased with the peaceful course of the event - there were no disputes between the different groups. Only one participant in the right-wing extremist counter-demonstration came into the focus of the investigation, since it was banned by banned symbolism, specifically SS runes on the belt.

high number of participants despite adverse circumstances

The number of participants of the CSD exceeded the expectations of the organizers who remained optimistic after the rain. Mayor Stahl praised the large number of participants and the peaceful sequence of the event at a time when similar events in the area, such as in Falkensee or Bad Freienwalde, were overshadowed by right -wing extremist counter -demonstrations.

As the statistics show from a survey carried out as part of the Pride Month activities, 83 % of Germans know what a CSD is. In addition, 67 % indicate to be familiar with the term queer, and 40 % identify as the allies of the LGBTQIA* community. These figures show growing support and acceptance in society, even if it becomes clear that there are still challenges.

set a sign

The CSDs are not only a solemn event, but also an important political platform. The pride that many participants show is full of hope that discrimination will continue to be reduced. 54 % of the respondents see the political message of the CSD as important. These findings are crucial, because 62 % of the Allys actively campaign against discrimination-they support friends, get involved in social media or take part in events to stand up for the LGBTQIA*rights.

Despite the challenges, the CSD remains a sign of change in Bernau and elsewhere. With the growing participation in such events and the increasing support of society, it turns out that more efforts help to further increase the visibility of the queer community.

The positive experiences of the event in Bernau are reflected in the many other CSD parades that took place in cities such as Bad Belzig, Luckenwalde and Neuruppin.

The Christopher Street Day remains an important step on the way to a fairer and more diverse society, and every contribution counts.
