Mayoral election in Nauen: Who will win the race on September 14th?
The mayoral election in Nauen is just around the corner on September 14, 2025. Four candidates are running: Manuel Meger from “Die Ländliche”, Michael Wiebersinsky from “We for Nauen”, Daniela Zießnitz from the CDU and Sven Kilian from the AfD. Mayor Meger's term of office ends on January 25, 2026. If none of the candidates achieve the required majority, a runoff election on September 28 will be necessary maz-online.de reported.
Meanwhile, proceedings against Dirk-Uwe M., the former managing director of the waste disposal company MEAB, are causing a stir. He was sentenced to six and a half years in prison - a decision that met with widespread response. M. was convicted of bribery in 69 cases and tax evasion in seven cases. The amount of bribes he pocketed? Around a million euros. M.'s luxurious lifestyle included expensive trips, fancy cars and VIP visits. It remains to be seen to what extent the corruption process will actually be completed, as there are always delays muellrausch.de describes.
A dark hour for society
Corruption is considered one of the biggest problems of our time. Around 3,840 corruption offenses were registered by the police in Germany in 2023 – an increase of 7 percent. These crimes are particularly common in the economic sector. This alone caused significant damage amounting to 57 million euros, although many cases remain obscure. A look at corruption shows that bribery and corruption are not just words, but unfortunately also reality. The perception among citizens is worrying: according to a survey by Statista 66 percent believe in corruption in national institutions.
Politics and parties in particular are under pressure. Trust is dwindling and more and more people feel betrayed by abuse of power and personal gain. In this context, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure that our elections and decisions are transparent and correct. The upcoming mayoral election could represent a first step in the right direction.
A problem house in Rathenow
In Rathenow, the situation in a “dirty house” on Forststrasse 54 is anything but pleasant. Residents complain about disturbances and threats. The condition of the house speaks volumes: destroyed windows and doors as well as accumulations of rubbish paint the picture of a neglected place. This prompted the city to schedule an on-site meeting with the affected residents to find a solution.
In addition, the cultural infrastructure in Falkensee is under pressure. The facilities there, such as the museum and the city library, struggle with a lack of space, accessibility and fire protection. City councilors, under the new cultural representative Manuela Dörnenburg, are working intensively on this issue. The support associations are calling for a cultural strategy to support the facilities and bring them back into shape.
That's not all: On July 19th, the cover band “Dirk und Durstig” will perform at the Fitpoint Premnitz outdoor pool. Up to 800 guests are expected, which is why the organizers are taking additional safety precautions. This also shows how diverse the cultural offering is, even if there are challenges.
The next few weeks have a lot to offer: Exciting elections, cultural highlights and discussions on pressing social issues are coming up. A real challenge – and also an opportunity to set a new course for our city and its future.
