Heat record in Havelland: outdoor pools suddenly overcrowded!

In Havelland the sun is shining brighter than it has for a long time. Record-breaking temperatures invite people to take advantage of the numerous bathing spots in the region. There are a total of three outdoor pools to choose from: in Nauen, Premnitz and Falkensee everyone will find their perfect place to cool off. The Nauen public swimming pool in particular attracts bathers. On June 22, 2024, over 2,000 visitors were counted here, many of whom traveled especially from Berlin maz-online.de reported.

The number of visitors fluctuates greatly depending on the weather. In 2023, the Nauen public pool recorded 36,000 guests, while last year there were more than 55,000 swimming enthusiasts. Paul Wieland, managing director of DLG Nauen, explains that the income from admission and snacks as well as city subsidies form an important financial basis. However, this income is also crucial because renovation work is pending - in particular the technical equipment and the cash register system are to be renewed.

Outdoor pools in Havelland: A look at what's on offer

The Falkensee forest pool caused discussions last year. Critics had feared that the opening of the Falkensee indoor swimming pool would affect the flow of visitors to the forest pool. But the fears did not come true: Dirk Albrecht, managing director of gegefa Bäder GmbH, reports stable visitor numbers. The forest pool is supported by the city with an annual subsidy of 153,000 euros, despite temporary admission stops on hot days.

Until last year, Falkensee was the only outdoor pool in the city, but with the opening of the indoor pool, the number of swimming options has now doubled. This is a welcome change for the city and its citizens. However, if you are looking for a truly unique experience, you cannot ignore the Premnitz natural pool. As one of the oldest outdoor swimming pools in the region, it is a special attraction, even if the financial difficulties of “Naturbad Premnitz e.V.” challenge the community.

Challenges for the Premnitz natural pool

The natural pool struggles with a deficit of around 50,000 euros per year, despite an annual subsidy of 156,000 euros from the city. In addition, the condition of the bathroom was described in Google reviews as being in dire need of renovation. Damaged tiles and necessary renovations are very obvious, which shows that there is an urgent need for action. Even if an engineering firm has already presented initial ideas for renovation, financing remains a major issue that needs to be clarified.

Despite these challenges, Havelland remains an extremely attractive region for swimmers and bathers. There are 20 EU-certified bathing areas with excellent water quality in the area. The Nymphensee in Brieselang offers a crystal-clear water surface, ideal for relaxing. The numerous beach resorts in Glindow, Ferch and Schönwalde-Glien are also known for a relaxing day by the water. However, the outdoor pools in Nauen, Premnitz and Falkensee are the top priority for families who not only want to swim, but also want to have fun together through games and sports.

The Havelland region offers something for everyone: be it a quiet day at the natural pool or a lively experience in the Nauen outdoor pool. Whatever the choice, one thing is clear: swimming season is in full swing and people are enjoying the warming rays of the sun in one of the many offerings the region has to offer. If the weather cooperates, the outdoor pools can expect a real boom in visitors. And who knows? Maybe the next record will be set soon!
