Lively conversations in Ketzin: District Administrator Lewandowski in dialogue about volunteering and urban development
On August 6, 2025, District Administrator Roger Lewandowski visited the city of Ketzin/Havel and used the opportunity for a personal exchange with Mayor Mußhoff. Current topics and municipal priorities were on the agenda in the town hall. On this day, visitors also got an insight into the activities of the Seesportsclub Ketzin e.V., represented by the club's board member Wilfried Luth.
With 75 members, 17 of whom are under 18 years old, the club is divided into five active departments. The sea sports club has already achieved several podium places at German championships, particularly in cutter rowing. To honor the members' commitment, Lewandowski tried out boat rowing himself. The activities on the Havel not only offer sporting activity, but also emphasize the importance of clubs for community life and leisure activities, which Lewandowski emphasized in his speech.
Water landscapes and leisure opportunities
At the boathouse of the sea sports club there are numerous berths for sailing and motor boats as well as rafts, which are open not only to members but also to water hikers. This facility shows how important the club is to the local community. The district administrator particularly emphasized the role of voluntary work, which makes an important contribution to society. In Germany, many people get involved, especially in sports clubs, which are considered the most common form of volunteering. According to Statista, there are almost 86,000 sports clubs that offer a wide range of volunteer opportunities, from the volunteer fire department to church activities.
After visiting the sea sports club, Lewandowski went on to Wohnungsbau- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH (GWV Ketzin), which was founded 35 years ago. Managing director Doreen Wagenschütz presented the company's diverse tasks, which include carrying out renovations, developing day care and senior living concepts and implementing new construction projects. The GWV is also involved in projects for intergenerational and inclusive living as well as in environmental projects.
Cultural highlights
A particularly festive event is coming to the region: The 25th Ketzin Havel Festival will take place on August 16, 2025, organized by the Ketzin Seesportclub. A timed cutter rowing competition over two times 400 meters will take place here. Registrations are possible until August 10, 2025, with late registrations on site on the day of the festival. Wilfried Luth, the association's contact person, emphasizes the importance of such events for strengthening the community and exchange among the participants.
In summary, it can be said that District Administrator Lewandowski's visit to Ketzin/Havel underlines the appreciation for the voluntary commitment and the importance of local associations. These initiatives not only promote leisure activities, but also cooperation in the community. Residents can look forward to lively events such as the Havelfest, which further strengthens regional identity.
