Young designers of the future: StadtSpielRaum brings a breath of fresh air to Brandenburg!
The city of Brandenburg an der Havel is bringing a breath of fresh air into the design of its urban spaces. With the digital participation game “StadtSpielRaum” the voices of the young generation are heard. Schoolchildren can take part in this exciting project until July 27, 2025 and contribute their ideas for the future of Bauhofstrasse. Particular attention is paid to the topics of climate adaptation and sustainable urban development, as City of Brandenburg reports.
The city administration has already started school workshops to introduce the game. Workshops took place at the Bertolt-Brecht-Gymnasium and in the Alfred Flakowski high school center. The CaT youth club was also visited, where children and young people from different age groups actively took part in the game. Many participants expressed positive feedback and were surprised at the actual costs of individual measures that they were able to explore in the game. “This really stimulates creativity!” is a common response, which shows that the project is on fertile ground.
Creative design of Bauhofstrasse
With “StadtSpielRaum” players have the opportunity to develop sustainable measures for climate protection. They test suggestions such as species-rich beds, innovative water management and sustainable mobility. The game not only promotes participation, but also offers a platform to develop your own ideas and visions for the city entrance, as erlebnis Brandenburg highlights.
The workshops are an important part of the initiative to ensure that the game designs actually meet the wishes and needs of the young people. Some requests for more objects and greater variety in the game cannot be implemented in the current phase, but the feedback from participants provides valuable information for the city administration.
A look into the future
Another highlight of the participation is the planned citizens' conference on September 29, 2025, at which the results of the “Let's play climate adaptation” project will be presented. It will be exciting to see how the young people were able to implement their ideas and how these will be incorporated into future city planning. The city administration hopes to motivate many more citizens to take part by the deadline of July 27, 2025.
But the opportunities for participation don’t end with the “StadtSpielRaum”. As part of the EmpHyReS project, a digital platform for participation by children and young people is also being developed. Ethical, legal and social implications are taken into account, which highlights the importance of the child's perspective in planning processes. The FCZB plays a central role here to ensure that the realities of children and young people's lives find space in urban planning.
Those interested can find more information and try out the game on the official project website at: www.stadt-brandenburg.de/stadtspielraum. An exciting project that not only promotes creativity, but also shows how the future of our cities will be shaped by the ideas of the next generation.
