Art meets language: Bettina Engel invites you to an exclusive tour!
In the idyllic Fouqué library in Brandenburg an der Havel, art lovers expect a very special exhibition: "In the beginning was ... the word". Artist Bettina Engel shows a total of thirty fascinating works here until August 31, 2025, inspired by the texts of the important writer Thomas Brasch. This collection enables visitors to experience the translation of linguistic impulses into visual forms up close. Bettina Engel, which began with unique graphics in the 1990s, has continued to develop since then and already presented her current series "Transcription" in 2023, which deals intensively with Brasch's lyrical texts.
The vernissage took place on Friday, April 4, 2025 and was part of the program for the first nationwide night of the libraries. At this opening, the author Marion Brasch was allowed to read from her work "From now on is calm", which also enriched the cultural evening. The exhibition is not only an artistic examination of language, sound and structure, but also invites you to discover the connections between visual, literary and written language.

A look beyond Brandenburg's borders
The exhibition "In the beginning was ... The Word" also fits into the contemporary art discourse, which is also booming in cities like Berlin, in contrast to Brandenburg. In the federal metropolis, hundreds of galleries and art institutions are active, which come up with a wide range of contemporary art, from painting to film and media art to digital NFT projects. Established places such as the Academy of the Arts or the House of Cultures of the World promote the discourse and exchange in the art scene. Visit Berlin highlights with numerous events such as the Gallery Weekend, which regularly Tighten out art.
While big names of the international art scene are represented in Berlin, Bettina Engels exhibition in Brandenburg shows that remarkable artistic disputes take place in smaller cities. Artists and angels contribute to the diversity and relevance of contemporary art in Germany and make it clear how important it is to create and promote cultural offers away from the metropolises.
A visit to the Fouqué library is always worthwhile to immerse yourself in the innovative world of Bettina Engel and rediscover the magical connections between writing and image.
