Naturism in Brandenburg: Nude bathing remains taboo in these hotspots!

In Brandenburg, where naturist culture (nudism) has a long tradition, nude bathing is generally permitted. How Moz.de reported, however, there are specific local bans that are determined by the respective municipal administration. One example is the Großer Krebssee in Hohenwutzen, where there is currently no ban on nude bathing. In Potsdam, on the other hand, nude bathing and nudist areas such as those at the traditional Heiligen See are very popular.

The nudist movement in Germany has historical roots, particularly in East Germany, where nudity is not only accepted but also seen as part of the culture. Nude bathing is not prohibited as long as it does not cause harassment to other bathers and there are no local regulations to the contrary. This is also evident in the numerous well-known nudist places in Berlin and Brandenburg, which are very popular. For example, the Godnasee with its high proportion of nudists, the Kalksee or the large meadow at the Nymphensee, like rbb24.de performs.

Society's perspective on nudity

The way nudity is dealt with in Germany reflects diverse social norms. As demonstrated in a documentary available on YouTube until January 24, 2024, nudists strive to express freedom and connection to nature. But you also have to consider the different cultural backgrounds. Compared to countries like France, which are considered the premier naturist destination, there are still discussions and prejudices regarding nudity in Germany.

The general trend shows that younger generations are less shocked by nudity, which is reflected in recent surveys. A summer 2021 survey by YouGov and Statista found that 28% of Germans are comfortable in places with nudity, especially men. However, 40% of the population feels uneasy, which shows that there are still reservations. The debate about topless swimming also shows that it was necessary to relax the rules so that all genders can now swim topless, even if they do not use this freedom often.

FKK: A space for community and sport

Naturist clubs not only offer safe opportunities for clothing-free bathing, but also an active community life. Christian Utecht, President of the Berlin-Brandenburg State Association of Free Body Culture, advocates for a more relaxed approach to nudity in society and calls for more freedom for nude bathing. These associations also promote sporting activities, which play a central role for many naturists, in keeping with the original ideas of the naturism movement from the 19th century.

In summary, it can be said that Brandenburg is a nudist stronghold that enjoys great approval. However, the challenges and prejudices faced by nudist culture show that there is still work to be done to further promote acceptance of nudity in society. The connection between freedom, nature and body consciousness remains at the heart of this movement, as naturists continue to search for suitable places to live out and enjoy their philosophy of nudity.
