New development plan in Brandenburg: Living planned on Hessenweg!
A lot is happening in Brandenburg an der Havel: With the publication of the Official Gazette number 20/2025 on October 13, 2025, as stadt-brandenburg.de reports, there were a number of exciting resolutions and invitations that point to active urban development.
A central topic of the official gazette is the upcoming meeting of the main committee on October 20, 2025. In this context, the public announcement of the statutes on the development plan number 38 “Wohnen am Hessenweg” will also be discussed. The planned development shows that the city attaches great importance to sustainable housing options.
Planned residential use on Hessenweg
Development plan No. 38 refers to an area in the Quenzsiedlung, one of the western districts of the old town of Brandenburg an der Havel. The planning area includes around 1.2 hectares of undeveloped areas of the former allotment garden “Zu den Birken” as well as adjacent traffic areas on Hessenweg, such as [participation.diplanning.de](https://bb. participation.diplanning.de/verfahren/ac1535a2-4933-48ec-8d0f-a91dbe3ee287/public/detail) reports. The aim of the entire project is to create planning conditions for the subsequent use of the area for residential purposes.
A key point in the planning process is the suspension of the parking space production regulations from April 15, 2005, which means that developers do not have to provide proof of necessary parking spaces in the building permit process. However, this could pose challenges as there may not be enough parking spaces in the area surrounding the new residential use. Urban planning is required to find a solution to this situation in order to avoid conflicts.
Urban planning in focus
All of these developments are part of more comprehensive urban planning that regulates the structural development of cities and communities. Urban development is governed by the building code, with the municipality itself bearing the responsibility to ensure sustainable development, as well [bra.nrw.de]. The land use plans are a central instrument for ensuring socially fair use of land and making urban areas livable.
Public interest in municipal activities remains high, especially in relation to the upcoming elections on November 9, 2025. Voting slips will also be issued during this period, which is important for many citizens. In addition, upcoming association meetings, such as those of the Emster Water and Wastewater Association on November 24th, are on the agenda.
