Andrea Johlige takes over Zur Goldenen Kugel” - a new chapter begins!
A new chapter begins for the “Zur Goldenen Kugel” inn in Fürstenberg. From January 1, 2024, the former Left Party member of the state parliament, Andrea Johlige, will take over the business of the traditional restaurant together with Andreas Intress, a city councilor from the same party. It is important to 48-year-old Andrea Johlige to keep the inn affordable for the region's citizens. Prices for half a liter of beer will start at a fair 3.50 euros.
But what exactly can guests expect in the new inn? The drinks menu will be varied and include beer, wine, sparkling wine and various non-alcoholic alternatives. A special highlight will be the lunch menu, where classic home cooking will be offered, including delicious roulade, peppers and Königsberger meatballs. Familiar faces will also be part of the new concept, as one employee will be retained and another will be hired, while Johlige himself will regularly be behind the counter.
Tradition and future
"Attentive service. Moderate prices" - this motto comes from a historical advertisement from 1910 and will continue to shape the restaurant's guiding principle in the future. In order to further preserve the history of the “Golden Ball”, Johlige searched through archives in the Fürstenberg town hall. The interior of the restaurant remains unchanged, and guests can look forward to comfortable 20 seats inside and an inviting beer garden.
Johlige and Intress have already made some plans for special events: the beer garden is scheduled to open on May 1st, a bock beer festival is planned for February, and guests will celebrate an Oktoberfest in October. This means that the inn will not only be a place for good food and drink, but also a meeting place for the community.
Experience from the catering industry
With their experience in the catering industry and their active role in the Left city association, Johlige and Intress bring a breath of fresh air and a clear vision to the inn. In addition to managing the restaurant, Andrea Johlige will continue to work as a freelancer in the areas of advertising, graphics, design and photography and give lectures. She will be able to bring these diverse experiences into the management of the inn in order to delight both old and new guests.
Given the changes in the catering industry and the varied needs of guests, Johlige shows a good knack for making the inn future-proof. The Fürstenberg City Museum could benefit from the takeover of the restaurant, which has a long history, and the plans for the future. Gastronomy in Fürstenberg remains exciting!
