New residential area in Gransee: There will be space for 500 people!
Exciting changes are coming to Gransee, a small town in the Oder-Havel district. A new residential area is planned to be built south of the Street of Peace on an area of around six hectares. Loud maz-online.de Around 500 people will find a new home here. This corresponds to around 12.5 percent of the current population of Gransee.
Building authority manager Christian Tutsch describes the project as part of a long-term plan that has been discussed in the city council since 2020. The city administration has set general guidelines for the construction project, which envisage careful development over a period of 20 to 25 years.
Quality of life and transport connections in focus
City officials agree that the focus is on creating a neighborhood in which people can actively participate in social life. Multi-storey residential buildings as well as some terraced and semi-detached houses are planned. However, the exact number of residential units remains unclear as the administration is looking for urban planning solutions.
An important topic is the questions about transport connections and the associated burdens. The need for a noise barrier due to the railway connection and the challenges of rainwater infiltration due to the nature of the soil are also taken into account. However, in an information event that took place in October, interest from citizens was rather low: only around 15 people took part.
Citizen participation and future developments
Citizens' requests such as the consideration of allotment gardens, garages and an early dialogue about the project were heard, including rethinking a local model to ensure the quality of living space. The balance between new housing options and the existing infrastructure is complex. “We want to ensure that people enjoy living here and that rents remain affordable,” emphasizes Tutsch.
Those responsible are optimistic that the planned construction work will enable additional residents to move in. The municipal housing company Gewo Gransee will act as the first point of contact for the development. A report is intended to create the conditions for a development plan that should be completed by the end of 2027.
While the plans so far are encouraging, many questions still remain unanswered: the exact cost estimate is still pending, and it remains to be seen how investors can be brought on board to realize the project. One thing is clear, however: the development in Gransee could bring a positive impulse to the city and create many new opportunities.
