Runoff election in Glienicke: Steguweit and Klein are fighting for the vote!
After a tense election Sunday on September 21, 2025 in Glienicke/Nordbahn, the city is facing a decisive runoff election. The incumbent mayor Hans Günther Oberlack (FDP) will retire next February and left his successor open as none of the six applicants could achieve the required majority. Therefore, there will now be a runoff election on October 12th between Arno Steguweit (CDU) and Uwe Klein (SPD).
Arno Steguweit won 35.5 percent of the votes in the first round, while Uwe Klein got 26.2 percent. André Spannemann from the AfD followed with 20.8 percent, the other candidates, Michael Breier (independent) with 8 percent, Lydia Neilson from the Greens (6.6 percent) and Mario Eberhardt (independent) with 3 percent now have to switch sides because they have dropped out of the race. The voter turnout was a solid 61.8 percent - a sign of the citizens' lively interest in local politics maz-online.de.
Candidates' reactions

Uwe Klein also commented positively and shared his joy about the result with his father. He considers the voter turnout to be “outstanding” and hopes that voters will also turn out in large numbers in the runoff election. Klein relies on his experience and expertise in local politics.
André Spannemann also rated his result as “good” and wished both candidates much success in the upcoming runoff election. Michael Breier, who was expected to receive a higher share of the vote in the first round, was satisfied with his 8 percent, but was surprised by Steguweit's strong performance. Lydia Neilson was disappointed with her 6.6 percent, while Mario Eberhardt viewed his 3 percent as a positive sign and plans to remain active in local politics rbb24.de.
