Velten is looking for trainees: Schmalz+Schön is fighting against a shortage of skilled workers!
What's happening in Velten? There is a lot of recruiting going on here! Schmalz+Schön-Logistics GmbH relies on a targeted training campaign to attract new talent to the company. Managing director Claus Pohl has felt the responsibility, because the aging of the workforce is a serious issue. Young people often fail because of the transport connections to the training centers. Despite these hurdles, there are signs of optimism as interest in apprenticeships in the region remains high.
At the age of 21, Justin Rackow works as a trainee warehouse clerk and completed his secondary school diploma in Velten. The young man packs boxes with wine bottles in a central warehouse that come from Italy, Portugal and Spain. “I feel comfortable here,” says Rackow about the pleasant working atmosphere, which he describes as familiar. And he is not alone: In addition to him, there are three other trainees learning in the camp and a dual business administration student.
The challenge of apprenticeships
Despite Claus Pohl's commitment and the trainees' positive experiences, there are challenges. Beate Kostka, head of the Neuruppin employment agency, reports a 9.8 percent decline in registered training positions in Oberhavel. Of a total of 651 training places, 26 are unfilled, while 30 applicants are still looking for a place that suits them. Pohl has to assert himself against the competition from larger companies that are also vying for the attention of young talent.
In order to appeal to young people, Pohl is increasingly using social media and online job portals for recruiting. His goal is to train two trainees in the commercial area and two in the warehouse per training year. A fair salary, such as just under 890 euros per month for Leon Subbert, as well as additional benefits such as a Givve card, make the positions attractive.
Training alternatives
There are alternatives for young people who have a harder time. Entry level qualifications offer an opportunity to those who may need to take a slightly different path. Pohl emphasizes that he is also prepared to train and take on applicants with weaknesses or disabilities. This openness is an important step in the right direction to enable more people to receive training.
The diverse training options were also examined, and a wide range of professions can be found on platforms such as bildung.de. These range from 3D design to geriatric care to dual study programs in areas such as agricultural management or mechanical engineering. This makes it clear to young people that there are many ways to pursue their dream careers.
So something is happening in Velten! Schmalz+Schön-Logistics GmbH is looking for new faces and offers numerous opportunities for those who are interested in training in a dynamic environment. In this way, they will continue to travel safely in the future so that their transport of wines and other goods can continue to be successful.
