Zehlendorf in transition: Rosengasse and the daycare center with bite in focus!
There is exciting news to report in Zehlendorf, one of the oldest districts of Oranienburg. Angela Riemer, who has lived in the idyllic Rosengasse since 2007, devotes herself to caring for 110 rose bushes that gave the place its name. These lovingly cared for plants are much more than just decoration; they are part of the village identity.
However, the community also faced challenges. Directly on Rosengasse are the ruins of a residential building that was badly damaged by a fire in June 2024. The 79-year-old resident has since sought refuge in a trailer. Such tragic events cast a shadow over the tranquil atmosphere that the place otherwise offers.
Shopping opportunities and village community
The shopping opportunities in Zehlendorf are limited. The shops include a hairdresser, a flower shop and a Netto market in Schmachtenhagen. In addition, a baker's vehicle delivers fresh bread to residents twice a week, while a butcher drives up once a week. Despite these restrictions, the villagers face the challenges with a great sense of community and an active club life that strengthens togetherness.
Local events are controlled in the village community center. Jörg Thomas (AfD), who has temporarily taken over the task from Anja Rosenow-Doil (FWO), stated that the construction of a fire station was one of the most important tasks of the local council. The clear signature of a committed committee is evident here.
The “Rappelkiste” daycare center – a place of health
Particular emphasis is placed on the younger citizens who are looked after in the “Rappelkiste” daycare center. This facility currently has 36 children but can accommodate up to 45. The daycare center is certified as a “daycare center with bite” – a quality seal that indicates health-promoting measures such as a tooth-friendly breakfast and regular tooth brushing. Such initiatives are supported by the prevention program to promote oral health, which the daycare center implements according to the guidelines for implementing an everyday routine that promotes oral health. As berlin.de reports, this also includes educating parents about proper dental care for their children.
In addition to healthy nutrition, the daycare center also offers a Kneipp room, which is equipped with a water treading pool and cold arm rinses. This not only promotes the children's well-being, but also teaches them how to deal with health issues consciously at an early age.
Future developments
Despite the current difficult situation with deserted properties, there are also bright spots: movement in the form of construction projects such as the seven apartment buildings with 66 barrier-free apartments on Amselstrasse shows that the community is ready to invest in the future. Jörg Thomas emphasizes that Zehlendorf is not only the oldest, but also a charming corner of Oranienburg that has a lot to offer with its 690-year history.
But not everything that glitters is gold. Young people don't have an easy time getting home at night. Limited recreational opportunities contribute to a lack of incentives for younger residents and a lively nighttime scene. This should be an incentive for the community to create new offerings and perhaps also see the village festival to be held in October as the first measure to revitalize it.
Overall, it shows that Zehlendorf is a place of contrasts: between tradition and modernity, between challenges and opportunities - a place that is alive and that becomes a little more colorful every day.
