In the early morning hours of October 28, 2025, a devastating fire broke out in a single-family home on the settlement path in Wormlage, Oberspreewald-Lausitz district. At around 6 a.m. the emergency services alerted the fire brigade from Großräschen and Altdöbern. The fire brigade operation began just a few minutes later, at 6:02 a.m., and a total of 55 emergency services with heavy respiratory protection were on duty, supported by several fire engines. Despite the quick response, the damage was enormous, the building is completely destroyed and is now considered to be in danger of collapsing, resulting in an uninhabitable situation. Particularly tragic news came from the scene: One person was seriously injured and had to be flown to a special hospital in a rescue helicopter, while three other injured people were taken to surrounding clinics.
