24 Brandenburg students proudly celebrate their German-French Abitur!

Education Minister Steffen Freiberg recently congratulated 24 Brandenburg students on their success in the German-French Abitur, also known as Abibac. In a solemn ceremony in French Institute in Berlin the graduates received their certificates. The Abibac stands for high language skills and promotes cultural exchange between Germany and France.

The students from the Friedrich-Anton-von-Heinitz-Gymnasium in Rüdersdorf are represented six times among the graduates, while the majority, 18 graduates, come from the Voltaire Comprehensive School in Potsdam. Interestingly, the Rüdersdorfer Gymnasium is already celebrating its tenth Abibac year this year, while the Voltaire comprehensive school only has its second graduating year.

Background to Abibac

The Abibac not only gives young people the opportunity to acquire the French Baccalauréat and the German Abitur, but also facilitates access to universities in both countries. This training has been established for over 20 years and is attracting more and more students. The special advantage? Bilingual branches in Germany not only offer French lessons, but also teach subjects such as history and geography in French, which helps high school graduates to significantly increase their language skills.
