Fürstenwalde in shock: Drunk man brutally injures passers-by!

In Fürstenwalde, a town in the Oder-Spree district, three men were injured while trying to prevent an armed attacker from breaking into a store. The incident occurred on Monday evening when the 27-year-old suspect, who was drunk at the time, hit a 30-year-old in the face with a paving stone and twisted the arm of a 32-year-old. A 22-year-old man was also injured in the clashes, while others present held the attacker on the ground until the police arrived. According to Borkener Zeitung, the man initially tried to gain access to the store with a knife, which was seized when he was arrested.

The alleged perpetrator is no stranger: the afternoon before the incident, he had already beaten and threatened a 40-year-old at the train station, whereupon the police sent him off. However, the 27-year-old didn't stick to it. He had already been noticed twice in the same store in the past few weeks, once while stealing and again when he injured a 33-year-old with a knife.

A disturbing series of attacks

But this wasn't the only incident that made headlines in Germany on Monday. There was also a knife attack on a 41-year-old man in Fürstenwalde, but his injuries initially remained unclear. A 26-year-old suspected perpetrator was arrested after a manhunt lasting several hours after witnesses observed the argument, which ended with multiple stab wounds. These incidents clearly show the increasing violent crime in Germany, which, according to police crime statistics, rose by 1.5% to 217,277 cases in 2024, and this is the highest level since 2007. Particularly worrying is the increase in the number of suspected children by 11.3% to 13,755 and young people by 3.8% to 31,383, like that [BKA].

Just recently, 29,014 knife attacks were registered, 54.3% of which were violent crimes. These worrying statistics reveal a clear trend: the proportion of non-German suspects now accounts for 41.8%. This raises the question of how such acts of violence can be countered in society and especially in our cities in the future.

Social discussions and security debates seem to be becoming more important than ever. At a time when more and more people fear for their safety, politics and society have a responsibility to find solutions and noticeably reduce the level of violence.
