Guben shines: trial living receives Brandenburg award!
In Guben, in the picturesque Spree-Neiße, the innovative “Probewohnen” project was recently honored by the Brandenburg State Chancellery. This special offer aims to give people an insight into life in the city and thus encourage immigration. A step that is all too important in times of demographic change!
As the rbb24 reports, the trial living is the first project to receive the award in the newly launched “Together for Brandenburg” series. Participants can live in Guben for free for several weeks, and they only have to cover the additional costs themselves. It is necessary to complete an internship with the city administration or a partner company.
Successful initiative
The initiative to promote immigration is already having an impact: in the first round a year ago, 17 participants took part in the trial housing; five of them ultimately stayed in Guben permanently. This year 16 people are taking part, some with their families. Among them are not only people from Guben, but also people from Berlin and Münsterland who are curious about life in the small town.
Kathrin Schneider, head of the State Chancellery, didn't miss the opportunity to visit the pro residents' regulars' table and present the award personally. The Guben Welcome Agency Guben does well, which is responsible for the project, has once again proven that it is pursuing the right strategy.
Rural development in focus
The trial living is an example of innovative approaches, like those from Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Homeland be promoted. In view of the demographic change that will significantly change Germany, the focus is on strengthening rural regions in order to promote immigration and attractiveness. Without immigration, many rural areas would experience a shrinking population.
The trial living in Guben is one of a number of similar concepts that are being tested in other cities such as Eisenhüttenstadt. These projects not only promote immigration, but also help connect new citizens with the existing population and contribute to the revitalization of the region.
The successful implementation of such initiatives is of great importance because rural areas face particular challenges resulting from aging population structures. The federal program for rural development shows that innovative solutions are needed to secure and improve the quality of life in these regions.
So completely new perspectives have been opened up in Guben. It will be exciting to see how the city continues to develop and what new faces the community will be able to welcome in the coming years.
