Storm Ziros: Chaos in Fürstenwalde – trees and roofs damaged!
On June 23, 2025, the storm Ziros raged over Brandenburg and caused chaos in several cities. The city of Fürstenwalde was particularly affected, where the fire department was put into a state of emergency.
The emergency services were deployed with 42 firefighters and seven vehicles to repair the damage. On Rauner Strasse, at the corner of Pushkinstrasse, a tree fell and blocked both the sidewalk and the road. The fire brigade secured the scene and, together with the other units, was able to carry out a total of 13 weather-related operations in Fürstenwalde. Among the challenges was a traffic accident on the L36 near Hasenfelde, which had the highest priority.
Damage and concerns
In total, two roofs were damaged in Fürstenwalde and eleven trees blocked paths and streets. The incident was particularly dramatic when a tree fell on a moving Toyota Verso. Fortunately, the driver was uninjured, while the damage was estimated at around 28,000 euros. Overall, the total damage in Brandenburg amounts to around 50,000 euros Moz.de reported.
But the consequences of the storm were not limited to Brandenburg. Numerous fire brigade operations took place in the neighboring capital Berlin. Alerts rose to over 500, including serious injuries and even two deaths from falling trees. At least three people, including a cyclist, sustained life-threatening injuries and were taken to clinics. The Berlin fire brigade was also in a state of emergency and had to contend with, among other things, disruptions to local public transport, he added Berliner-Zeitung.de.
The weather situation before and after the storm
The weather experts from the German Weather Service had previously warned of strong thunderstorms and hurricane-like gusts that could reach speeds of up to 100 km/h. In Brandenburg an der Havel a maximum wind speed of 105 km/h was even measured, which illustrates the dominance of the storm. Unwetterzentrale.de explains that storm warnings are divided into advance warnings and acute warnings, which make it clear how severe the weather situation is.
After about 1.5 to 2 hours the situation eased as the storm subsided. Nevertheless, the fire brigade in Fürstenwalde will continue to be busy removing broken branches on the following Tuesday. These severe weather conditions once again highlight the importance of emergency response strategies and preparatory planning for such unexpected events.
