Important innovations from July: pensions, care and e-car charging stations!
In a few days, more precisely on July 1, 2025, numerous new regulations will come into force in Germany that are of great importance for many people. One of the most discussed changes is a positive one Pension increase, which increases by a whopping 3.74 percent. This adjustment is based on the current wage development and affects pensioners in both the east and west of Germany, as the uniform pension value has been in effect since July 2024. The pension value will be increased to 40.79 euros, while the exemption amount for survivors' pensions will also be increased from 1,038 euros net to 1,076 euros net. For victims of the SED dictatorship, the pension even increases from 330 euros to 400 euros.
But pensioners are not the only ones who can benefit from the new regulations. From July 1st, the approximately 1.3 million employees in geriatric care can also look forward to higher wages. The minimum wage will be increased to 16.10 euros for nursing assistants and to 17.35 euros for qualified nursing assistants. Nursing professionals can even look forward to 20.50 euros per hour. The move is not only seen as a sign of appreciation for the often hard work in the care sector, but is also a response to the challenges facing the sector.
Changes in the area of care and support
In addition to the wage increase, there are also innovations in the Nursing care insurance. A digital verification process for the number of children will now be introduced and the prevention and short-term care services will be combined into a common annual fee. This makes the use of care services easier and more transparent.
Another significant change concerns the remuneration rates for professional carers and guardians, which will now be adjusted to the tariff development in the public sector. An increase of 3.79 percent for compensation for victims of violence and those injured by vaccinations will also take effect. These measures demonstrate a clear move by the government to strengthen social safety nets and provide more support to those affected.
New and old in e-mobility and rental bike systems
There is less good news in the rental bike sector: From July 1st, the publicly funded Nextbike rental bike system will be discontinued. The contract between Nextbike and the city of Berlin is expiring, which could be a step backwards for many cyclists. While Nextbike plans to continue operating in profitable neighborhoods, users will certainly have to get creative to find alternative transportation options.
Finally, the deadline for the 2024 wage tax return will also be extended by one month to July 31, 2025. For people receiving tax advice, there is even a deadline of the end of April 2026. The changes that will accompany the beginning of July 2025 are diverse and show that there is still a dynamic development in Germany's social and economic order.
