Bikers for Ela: Over 100 machines loudly on the move in Dreetz!
Last Saturday, the engines of over 100 motorcycles roared in Dreetz and Neustadt as the motorcycle community came together to support the seriously ill Michaela “Ela” Rebotzki under the motto “Noise for Ela”. Diving into the colorful world of bikers, the convoy not only consisted of heavy machines, but also Simson mopeds and other special vehicles that created an impressive backdrop. It was a day where motorcycles and compassion went hand in hand - a true celebration of solidarity.
Michaela Rebotzki, a 47-year-old woman who has been battling cancer for eight years, was at the center of the action. She was visibly moved by the large crowds. She enjoyed an hour-long tour on a friend's trike and waited for her ride in full motorcycle gear. Despite her serious health situation, she expressed the wish to live for many more years and to go on further trips. Her son Peer Grunwald was impressed by the outpouring of support she found in the community. “This means a lot to us,” he said.
A community for a great cause
The tour was organized by various motorcycle clubs, including the Wandales MC Germania from Kyritz and friendly clubs. Not only did they ensure that the ride ran smoothly, but they also ensured a cozy meal with coffee and cake at the MC Dreetz motocross site after the ride. The police secured the event so that all participants could complete their laps safely. Bikers from cities like Rostock and Göttingen were keen to take part in this common act of charity.
This event is part of the growing movement of motorcycle communities dedicated not only to the spirit of adventure, but also to mental health. In this context, initiatives such as the Fellows Ride, which was launched under the patronage of Dieter Schneider after his son's suicide and is now an established platform for raising awareness of mental illnesses. Reported on this Plug biker: “Participation in the Fellows Ride is free, but donations are welcome.” With every kilometer on the asphalt, the participants not only collect experiences, but also donations for local mental health projects.
Fellows Ride in 2025
The plans for 2025 are promising and already include several dates in different cities. Rides take place in Graz, Magdeburg and Berlin, among others. The last Fellows Ride in 2024 was a resounding success with almost 3,000 participants and over 114,000 euros, which went directly into supporting 28 projects. These actions impressively show how solidarity is lived in the biker community and that the rides are not just about having fun with the machines, but also about an important message: Everyone can need help and we stand together!
Events like this make it clear that motorcycling is more than just speed and freedom. It is also a strong community that is passionate about social issues. In the coming period, we can look forward to seeing how these initiatives will continue to grow and help raise awareness about mental health.
