Big open-air concert in Neuruppin: music school delights listeners!

On June 17th, a concert by the big band of the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district music school took place on the school square in Neuruppin. Around 100 visitors, including friends, curious people and students from the music school, came to enjoy the evening program. How maz-online.de reports, the open-air concert was part of the city's model project "Your Park. Your City.", which has been transforming the school square into a "test field for the future" since June. The aim of this project is to bring the school square into greater public awareness through mobile stages, art activities and musical contributions.

A big highlight of the big band night was the performance of former music student Helene Hannemann, who performed the soul classic “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. Hannemann, who recently successfully completed her colloquium in the master's program in event technology and management in Berlin, comes from Alt Ruppin and received piano and singing lessons at the district music school. She has been inspiring people on stage for ten years. Music school director Charlotte Balle emphasized how important contact with former students is for the music school.

A piece of outdoor culture

The event took place in the open air, which was considered a great enrichment by those present. The positive response to the concert has already led to inquiries to the head of the cultural office about other similar formats. After all, the music school currently has around 40 students who receive individual singing lessons, rounded off by a choir. Helene Hannemann will also appear at a festival in Nietwerder on June 28th.

The “Your Park Project” receives funding from the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction amounting to 160,000 euros. A city-wide network of actors made up of schools, initiatives, clubs and the administration in Neuruppin is responsible for implementation. The Evangelical School Neuruppin (EVI) acts as the initiator.

Looking to the future

In addition to art activities, leisure opportunities should also be created. Nesting boxes were built, clean-up work was carried out and running routes were signposted. Students have even created a website and films on the topic of park design. The new infrastructural offerings in the park are intended to achieve the goal of developing the forgotten city park into an open and lively place. In order to achieve this, poster campaigns and installations are also being planned.

As the “Culture Awakening” funding program in Frankfurt 2023 shows, low-threshold and participatory cultural offerings are necessary to promote social interactions in public spaces. This type of event is particularly appreciated in the summer months. The interest in such projects proves that open-air events are a valuable space not only for spectators but also for artists to interact with one another. Such opportunities strengthen local culture and contribute to the city's revitalization. Further information can be found at kultur-frankfurt.de.
