Neuruppin is facing a profound change in the area of daycare centers. How maz online reports, the city plans to close smaller daycare centers and renovate larger facilities. This step is necessary because there are over 260 free places in municipal daycare centers and after-school care centers in Neuruppin, which makes the situation for the “Rainbow” daycare center in Bechlin critical. With only 26 places, this facility is on the verge of extinction.
A decline in the number of children of daycare age, combined with an expansion of capacity by independent providers, has led to this oversupply. In order to overcome the challenges, the Neuruppin Social Committee will discuss on September 9th how things should continue with the daycare centers and what will become of the “Rainbow” daycare center.
Complex situation around daycare centers
But that's not all, either neuruppin.de reported. IB Berlin-Brandenburg gGmbH has announced that it will cease operations at the “Fontaneknirpse” daycare center on July 31, 2024. This decision is the result of a lack of financial sustainability and inadequate legal regulations. The dispute over rent and cleaning costs has further complicated the situation, and the court order to make retroactive payments shows that there is a lot going on here.
Despite these challenges, Fontanestadt remains optimistic. There is confidence that all children will be able to get a place in other daycare centers in the future, be it independent providers or municipal facilities. The city wants to continue communicating with the IB to find solutions.
Economic changes in Neuruppin
But it's not just in the daycare sector that things are happening. In Fehrbellin, work is currently underway to expand the Cocoa Road in order to enable a large-scale 300 million euro project. A Hamburg real estate developer is planning to build a logistics park, which will not only create new jobs but also increase trade tax revenue. By 2030, three large halls on an average of 50 hectares are to be built in the new commercial area, with 42 hectares already sold.
And while the economic course is being set, the local festival “Bands für Neuruppin” will take place in the Kesselhaus in two weeks. On September 12th and 13th, the organizers, including Thomas Pietsch and Matthias Köppen, are expecting 14 bands and many visitors. Entry is free, and the event has developed from a Corona initiative into a real cultural highlight since 2020.
But not everything runs smoothly: On Wednesday morning, several police vehicles in Neuruppin carried out a planned operation on Karl-Marx-Straße. Although the exact details of the operation were not published in order not to jeopardize the ongoing investigation, the situation remains tense.
Citizens can only hope that the upcoming discussions and initiatives will create positive waves in the near future. In particular, the recent challenges in childcare and the need to maintain a diverse daycare program are issues that must now come into focus.
