Cuddling with cows: Fehrbelliner Ökohof starts new animal sponsorships!

Kuhhorst, Deutschland - A warm welcome to the Ökohof Kuhhorst: In the past few weeks, students from the Rosa Parks primary school in Berlin-Kreuzberg have experienced rural life up close. Her first encounters with Monika, the cow, who now acts as a sponsored cow, were a real highlight. MAZ-Online reports that the cooking school organizes nine these visits and brings the children closer to the joy of food and healthy eating. Since 2022, excursions have been held regularly to Kuhhorst.

The cuddling with the cows is more than just a pleasure. The cows are new in their role as a godfather cows, but the students seem to get used to them quickly. The Kuhhorster not only bring joy, but also an ecological approach to agriculture. By the end of 2024, the cows were part of a company that produced around 500,000 liters of milk annually. However, milk production was discontinued on the basis of economic considerations, and the farm switches to sustainably produced meat from suckler cow husbandry. The calves remain with their mothers, which enables a particularly species -appropriate attitude.

cuddling for a good cause

In order to cover the costs for feed, attitude and veterinarian, cuddly dates and sponsorships are offered. The prices for this start at 35 euros for a cuddly date and 70 euros for a sponsorship. These initiatives also help the facility, since over 90 people with disabilities work on the ecoof who manage over 520 hectares of land. Boelw explains that ecological agriculture is based on closed operating organism, in which the use of soil and the livestock farming is individually adapted to secure the natural production bases in the long term.

The Ökohof Kuhhorst was launched in 1991 by the Berlin Mosaic Association and has made a name for itself as an Arche-Hof since then. Here you breed historical, endangered livestock breeds. This is in line with the goals of ecological agriculture: the promotion of biodiversity and the respectful handling of the animals are central aspects. Everything is done on Kuhhorst to support biodiversity and to protect the environment by promoting beneficials and wild animals and striving for humus in the ground.
