Neuruppin gets a modern palliative care center – but where are the apartments?

A lot is happening in Neuruppin right now. A completely new place of hope has been built: The Prignitz-Ruppiner Hospice Society has set up an impressive palliative care center for four million euros. With twelve apartments, eight places for short-term care and even a family doctor's office, the facility not only offers a new home, but also comprehensive medical care. The first resident, Inge Rogge, is very happy with her new surroundings and is settling in well.

Another exciting point: The hospice company is planning to renovate a neighboring brick building for office space and possibly also a meeting center. But the existing infrastructure also faces challenges. Experts are urgently calling for more affordable apartments in Neuruppin. According to a report by the city administration, the pressure on the housing market has increased in recent years. Although many new apartments have been built, most of them are owner-occupied apartments or those with high rents - a problem that concerns not only those affected, but also the city.

New housing market study and skilled trades

The next housing market study will be presented to the city's building committee, but the exact consequences are still unclear. It will be interesting to see how these results can lead to relief in the housing crisis.

Meanwhile, there is positive news in the craft sector: interest in skilled trades is growing again. Seven trainees began their apprenticeships at Hoch- und Tiefbau Wittstock. The employment agency in Ostprignitz-Ruppin (OPR) currently reports 73 vacant training positions - but 27 young people are still looking for a suitable apprenticeship.

Another highlight that promotes the region's entrepreneurial spirit is the “School of Lions”. Students from Ostprignitz-Ruppin can present their own business ideas here. The competition, organized by the Wirtschaftsjunioren OPR, attracts schools from Neuruppin, Kyritz and Wittstock. On November 22nd, participants have the chance to present their concept and possibly win prize money of 5,000 euros.
