Record waste in Ostprignitz-Ruppin: Yellow bin is in danger of overflowing!

There's really something going on in Ostprignitz-Ruppin lately. The amount of rubbish in the yellow bins has reached a record high - and to an extent that amazes even the most experienced waste professionals. A total of 53 kilograms per resident were disposed of in the yellow bin, which is almost twice as much as the national average. What does that even mean? As it turns out, increased missed throws are the main reason for this high number.

Missed litter, i.e. waste that doesn't actually belong in the yellow bin, makes recycling a real challenge. Employees of the waste disposal company AWU have been keeping an eye on the contents of the yellow bins since Monday. If violations are identified, the bin in question will not be emptied and will receive a yellow warning sticker for subsequent sorting. This ensures that only what actually belongs in the bin goes into the bin.

Yellow bin rules

So what really belongs in the yellow bin? The district has clearly listed the rules. Are permitted:

  • Leere Verpackungen aus Kunststoff, Aluminium und Weißblech
  • Dosen und Plastikverpackungen mit dem Grünen Punkt oder anderen Lizenzzeichen

In contrast, materials such as paper, glass or similar waste have no place in the yellow bin and should be disposed of in the appropriate containers. If you sort incorrectly several times, you will even have to expect the bin to be removed.

In the last few weeks, the AWU found all sorts of things in the bins that simply have no place there: vacuum cleaner bags, ashtray contents, cat litter and even used diapers were discovered. These incorrect throws not only complicate the recycling process, but often even make it impossible.

What now?

The yellow bins are emptied every 14 days. This means that you should regularly keep an eye on the contents of the bin to ensure that the waste is separated properly. Otherwise you only risk getting in trouble with a yellow sticker or, in the worst case, having the bin removed.

In these hectic times, when every gram of waste counts, it becomes clear how important waste-conscious action is. If everyone follows the rules, everyone can contribute to a more sustainable future. If you would like to find out more about the exact requirements, you can read the information directly on the district's website: [rbb24 reports that...](https://www.rbb24.de/panorama/teil/2025/11/ostprignitz-ruppin-muell-gelbe-tonne-kontrolle-rekord- Fehlwurf.html).
