Rescuer dog Brix finds missing Kyritz woman after two days in the bush!
In a remarkable rescue operation, a 67-year-old woman from Kyritz, who had been lying helpless in the bushes for two days and nights, was found by a rescue dog team. The senior citizen's cries for help initially went unheard, which dramatically worsened her situation. It was the Malinois male Brix who successfully completed the search together with his team of dog handlers. On Friday, August 9, 2025, within ten minutes of the search beginning, Brix used his finder's instinct and found the missing senior citizen in the bushes. The campaign underlines the enormous importance that professionally trained rescue dogs have in such operations. According to Iro Dogs, the dog and his team were crucial to the quick success of the search.
The story goes back to Wednesday evening when the senior care facility raised an alarm because the woman, who usually returned after a walk, could no longer be found. In particular, the first attempts using aircraft and drones, which were used around the clock, were unsuccessful. It was only when the BRH Rescue Dog Squadron Brandenburg e.V. and its nine emergency services were deployed that targeted search measures were initiated in the area of the last location, which ultimately led to the woman's rescue.
From rescue to recovery
After being rescued, the elderly woman was immediately taken to hospital by emergency services. She was treated there and her condition quickly stabilized. Mario Bohnsack, head of senior care “Azurit”, said that the woman is now in good health. However, this rescue operation was not the first time that she had found herself in such a critical situation as she suffers from dementia-like illness. After several months in which her medication was adjusted, she is now being cared for by a legally appointed carer from the Kyritzer Care Association, who is supposed to ensure that the woman receives the support she needs.
The woman also has plans for the future: She would like to move to a nursing home in Kremmen to be closer to her family in Berlin. Bohnsack thanked the rescue dog team and everyone involved for their tireless help and described the operation as “extraordinary”. The positive feedback about the woman's health shows how important the use of such teams is. Ines Rosenblatt, an experienced dog handler and former paramedic, was also involved in the rescue and emphasized the importance of well-trained rescue dogs in emergencies.
The story of this courageous senior citizen from Kyritz and her rescue by Brix and the rescue dog team reminds us how important solidarity and professional action are in an emergency. Every day counts, especially when it comes to the well-being of the most vulnerable in our society. The rescue operation was not only an impressive confirmation of the skills of the rescue dog teams, but also one! Teaching about the need to be vigilant in our community and to act quickly when needed.
