A serious traffic accident rocked Autobahn 24 in Brandenburg last Sunday, more precisely between the Neuruppin and Neuruppin-Süd junctions. The first alarm sounded at around 5:57 p.m. when a collision between several vehicles was reported. A rescue helicopter was quickly deployed to treat the injured, but there was initially no further information about the number of people affected or the exact circumstances of the accident. The left lane in the direction of Berliner Ring was closed, resulting in considerable waiting times of up to an hour. Motorists who are familiar with the area were asked to avoid the area as much as possible.
There had already been a series of accidents on the A24 within a few minutes in the direction of Hamburg. The first incident occurred at 1:25 p.m. when a Toyota collided with a Lexus because it was not keeping enough distance. Immediately afterwards, a VW crashed into the rear of a Hyundai - also for the same reason - injuring a 62-year-old. The injured Ford driver, who drove too quickly into the accident area, also collided with the VW. The total damage is estimated at around 37,000 euros. The affected section of the route was finally reopened at 2:49 p.m., but traffic had already suffered severely.
