Schwochow wants to remain mayor of Rheinsberg – election on September 28th!

On June 27, 2025, the mayor of Rheinsberg, Frank-Rudi Schwochow, announced his renewed candidacy for the upcoming elections. The 39-year-old, who belongs to the BVB/Free Voters faction, was unanimously nominated and has set himself the goal of winning the election in first gear. He is optimistic and points to the successful projects of his previous term in office, such as budget consolidation and accelerated administrative work, which underline his citizen orientation. The citizens of Rheinsberg definitely want to honor these successes, but the competition never sleeps.

Schwochow's competitors consist of well-known competitors: Silke Peitsch (62, CDU), Mario Stärck (57, Left) and Lukas Schröglmann (30, SPD). The election will take place on September 28th and is eagerly awaited, especially after the city council recently declared last year's local elections valid. The withdrawal of around 2,200 votes that Schwochow had wrongly lost was repealed. This was the result of an intensive debate in which several election objections that made harsh accusations against him were rejected. This was reported by the rbb24.

Controversies surrounding the election

The political situation in Rheinsberg is not that easy. With the decision to revoke the withdrawal of votes, the question arises as to whether the legal proceedings have now been concluded or whether the objectors will file an objection. The CDU had requested that the election objections be rejected in order to avoid possible legal uncertainties. In particular, the CDU is aiming for legal certainty in the electoral commission, which is causing debate among citizens [ maz-online.de ].

In his plans for a possible second term in office, Schwochow has outlined ambitious plans. Among other things, he would like to promote road construction, strengthen the fire departments and extend the tourism season. The transparent rental agreements of the refugee home in Flecken Zechlin should also be a central concern in order to support citizens according to the motto “We are there for you”.

Local elections in Brandenburg

The upcoming local elections are an important part of political life in Brandenburg. As a rule, citizens aged 16 and over are allowed to vote, which makes for full lists in several cities. Around 22,500 applicants are available to fill the approximately 6,100 seats in the various committees: from local councils and community councils to city councils and district councils. The last local election took place on June 9, 2024, with voter turnout being 66.1%. Interested voters will receive election notifications approximately three weeks before the elections [ political-education-brandenburg.de ].

The coming months will be exciting for the residents of Rheinsberg and also for people throughout Brandenburg. Democracy is very important here, and citizens are called upon to raise their voices and set the course for the next term in office.
