Trecker-Maik celebrates his 50th birthday – with Trabant and Barkas to Mallorca!
The anticipation is great because Maik Horn, also known as Tracker-Maik, is celebrating his 50th birthday these days - all under the sunny sky of Mallorca. To properly celebrate this special occasion, he came up with something extraordinary: a tractor tour to Mallorca under the motto “NOT WITHOUT MY TRECKER – once to Malle and back”. As maz-online.de reports, Maik will drive along country roads to Barcelona accompanied by his wife Dani and friends before we continue to the island by ferry.
The journey begins not only with a tractor, but also with a Barkas B1000 and a Trabant 601, which were rebuilt by loyal friends, 28-year-old Titus Scholz and 35-year-old Fabian Nadoll. These nostalgic vehicles are a real eye-catcher and make the tractor ride a special experience. Titus inherited the Trabant from his grandfather, and Fabian set up his own business with the Barkas. An exciting journey awaits them, they plan to arrive in Mallorca on Wednesday or Thursday in order to be ready for the celebrations in time!
The challenge of the journey
The entire route is around 5,000 kilometers, and Maik has equipped his tractor caravan with a ZT 323 (built in 1984) and other nostalgic vehicles, all of which are in excellent condition. Thanks to their practical features, such as air conditioning and radio, they are well equipped for the long journey. Estimated fuel costs of around 4,500 euros and a speed of only 30 km/h give the route a very special character. Maik is afraid of flying and is therefore happy to be able to travel with the tractor. The entire trip is scheduled to last seven weeks, and it will be exciting to see how the journey develops.
A nice custom runs through the tour: Thomas Kresse, an acquaintance of Maik, told him to pour a sip of Temnitz water into the Mediterranean. In return, a bottle of water from the Mediterranean will be brought back to Temnitz. This small ritual not only stands for the connection to the homeland, but also for international understanding, for which Maik is committed to his existence in the region, as amt-temnitz.de reports.
An experience for the community
Maik and his group bring the love of old vehicles and the enthusiasm for adventure to the streets of Europe. None of this happens without support: numerous sponsors from the region and local companies are behind the project. It is a collaborative effort that also draws attention to the region. The celebration in Mallorca is attended by around 50 guests including friends and family, and Maik is convinced: “It is a very special experience that you don’t have every day.”
The return trip to Barcelona has already been booked for July 8th, and the anticipation for the entire trip remains palpable. With the retro charm of the vehicles and the excitement of the road trip, Maik Horn's Mallorca tour is an event that is sure to leave its mark in the hearts of the participants. Anyone who is still interested in nostalgic experiences will find numerous opportunities to find out more about vintage tractors here and perhaps even try pedaling.
