Bad Belzig celebrates: Oliver Tietz with a dream grade of 1.0 in his 2025 Abitur!

There is something to be happy about in Bad Belzig: Oliver Tietz, an 18-year-old high school graduate from Buckau, passed the best high school diploma in 2025 at the Fläming-Gymnasium with an impressive 840 points. With an average of 1.0, he achieved the dream grade and not only amazed his classmates but also experts. Maz Online reports that Oliver has been attending the Fläming-Gymnasium since the seventh grade and his favorite subjects are mathematics and, since the eighth grade, computer science.

The competition was strong: Jette Brunkow from the Treuenbrietzen comprehensive school followed Oliver with 831 points and Melissa Sagorny with 826 points. Both also achieved top marks. It is impressive how many talented young people are active in the region.

An intensive year of learning

The pressure that Oliver put on himself could not be underestimated. He started studying mathematics a week before the exams and was able to rely on his quick comprehension and attentive learning in class. In history, in particular, he had to prepare for the exam that dealt with the popular uprising in the GDR on June 17, 1953. He received the top grade of 15 points for his oral exam.

After the last test, a lot of pressure was lifted from him. He gave himself a well-deserved rest and went home to sleep. His achievements are the result of a combination of hard work and the strengths he inherited from his parents - a gift for languages from his mother and talent in science from his father.

Plans for the future

After graduation, Oliver goes to London for a week - a gift from his parents. Anticipation guaranteed! And his girlfriend, who gave him headphones, will certainly support him in his future plans. He would like to study computer science at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam if he is accepted and has a great passion for the combination of medicine and computer science. His dream is to later work in research.

Commitment doesn't end with the books: Oliver is also politically active, a member of the SPD and involved in the Jusos. He plans to spend the time until the start of the semester meaningfully with friends and his girlfriend and to make up for the birthday parties that were canceled during the exam period.

Brandenburg has fallen to 15th place in the 2024 Education Monitor, but the region shows strengths in integration and internationalization. The low school dropout rate among foreign young people and the high proportion of foreign students are positive indicators. But there are also challenges that need to be overcome, such as STEM training and the digital entry barrier. The schools work to promote their students' ability to study and to offer individual learning opportunities, which is also successfully implemented at the Fläming-Gymnasium. INSM emphasizes that in addition to creating an optimal school climate, cooperation with various partners has also become more important.

A positive development of the school climate and the promotion of professional skills are important goals that the school management of the Fläming-Gymnasium also pursues, as can be seen from its program priorities. School management and basic pedagogical orientations are crucial in order to optimally prepare students for life after high school. Schools in Brandenburg carries out comprehensive measures and regularly evaluates their effectiveness.
