Michendorf receives 5 million euros: What are the plans for the future?

On November 6, 2025, news from the municipality of Michendorf caused a stir: over five million euros will flow into the region from the federal government's special infrastructure and climate neutrality fund. This is a considerable sum that should be invested carefully. The administration has already drawn up a list of 25 suggestions, which are now being discussed in the community committees. On December 8th, the decision will be made on the priority list, which determines where the money will go.

The suggestions range from a new building to fresher streets in the community. A particularly interesting point is the planned construction of a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists. This is intended to connect the residential area on Bahnstrasse with the new town center “Apfelmitte”. The estimated costs are between 3.2 and 6.1 million euros. But the conversion of the daycare center in Eichenweg in Wilhelmshorst into a youth club is also on the list. Around 20,000 euros have been budgeted for this measure.

New life for the streets and other projects

Another proposal stands out and causes some skepticism in the local advisory board: a “multifunctional building” in the center of Wilhelmshorst. This is intended to integrate the fire department, commercial units and living space, which is estimated to cost between 8 and 12 million euros. The question here is whether the investments are actually in the best interests of the community.

But not only large projects are on the table. Other measures also include smaller but no less important suggestions, such as purchasing a sweeper for around 300,000 euros. The roads in the region should also be brought into shape - including Fercher Weg and Potsdamer Allee in Wildenbruch. There are also plans to replace the street lighting, which would certainly make it safer in the evenings.

Transparent planning and collaboration

After determining the priority list, the administration plans to develop concrete cost and schedule plans for the approved projects. This transparent approach could help residents get more involved and implement the measures together with the administration. Looking optimistically into the future – that is the message that the people of Michendorf can take away from these developments.
