Michendorf lowers fire brigade fees and plans to sell real estate!

There is news in Michendorf that primarily concerns the security and finances of the community. Those responsible have decided to reduce personnel costs for paid fire service operations. From now on, each emergency worker will only be charged 29 cents per minute, while the previous rate of 68 cents was significantly higher. This should not only please the passionate volunteers in the fire department, but also the citizens who rely on the fire department's help in an emergency. MAZ Online reports that the fees for fire engines were changed from flat-rate billing to transparent vehicle billing.

Now the tariffs vary between 0.54 and 3.64 euros per minute depending on the vehicle type. The most expensive vehicle is the Wilhelmshorst fire department's large fire engine, which costs 3.64 euros per minute. In contrast, the Fresdorf local fire department's multi-purpose vehicle can be classified as a bargain at just 0.54 euros per minute. Interestingly, citizens have to pay for operations if they have intentionally or grossly negligently caused a danger - this also includes fire brigade animal rescues.

Financial challenges caused by real estate sales

But that's not all that happens in Michendorf. The community's financial situation is also in focus. The local council has decided to sell two empty administrative buildings: one at Potsdamer Straße 33 and another at Poststraße 1. The first attempt to sell the building on Potsdamer Straße has already failed, mainly due to limited usage options and high renovation costs, which deterred many interested parties. The income of 800,000 euros that was planned from the sale of the first building could therefore be at risk. Mayor Claudia Nowka expressed concerns about possible funding gaps.

However, the second building on Poststrasse is scheduled to be sold this year - there are already promising interested parties. Such sales could be important for the community, especially since the expansion of the Rosenweg could also become more expensive. The construction company's last final bill amounts to 1.02 million euros, while only 761,782 euros were originally budgeted. An impending increase in costs of around 30,000 euros has already been determined, while disputed additional costs of around 350,000 euros still have to be clarified. Discussions with the construction company are being planned to get these financial challenges under control.

Regulations for public use

Finally, there was also news regarding the regulations for posting posters in public. The municipal council passed a new “special use statute”, which, among other things, reorganized the much-discussed regulations for election advertising. Although some of the controversial passages about the size and number of election posters have been deleted, representatives have shown a good hand at keeping the regulations flexible. IPM Berlin mentioned that these measures are part of a more comprehensive realignment of municipal services, which is also required by the Fire and Disaster Protection Act.

As the Michendorf community looks to restructure its finances and security, it remains to be seen what other changes will come. The signs indicate that a lot is happening in the community - for the benefit of the citizens and the emergency services.
